    Hello,

I am a newbie to Ferrarichat, and is my first post to your board. I've been directed here as a resource to help me in my quest to have the dream car of my childhood in my garage.

I have been a Ferrari enthusiast for decades, and I have enjoyed the V8 cars, but I am seriously in the market for a BB. I've looked at a handful over the past 2 years.

Team Motorsports in Springfield MO is offering a 512BBi that I inspected last weekend (http://www.teammotorsports.com/item.php?id=6358). The car shows very well, and is in excellent original condition with 10.6K kilos. However, its history and condition appear to indicate it's been essentially stored for the last 4-5 years, with less than 1000 kilos put on the clock over that time and essentially no maintanence done aside from a cosmetic freshening.

In my opinion, Team wants top-dollar for a non-Platinum car. I'm looking for a casual showcar to enjoy for "life" - not one to buy/sell/speculate upon. Does anyone know this car or have have any opionion on if it's worth the premium deal?

Also, the car was inspected by Frank at Import Specialists. I think Frank's got a nice shop and appears to be dealing in good faith, but, before paying up, I'd like another opinion on the car - does anyone have a different shop in Springfield they can recommend for a PPI?

All of your help would be deeply appreciated. If anyone needs Ferrari help in New England, I'm available!

    Best Regards,
    David Eichenbaum

...i'm also looking for a proper testarossa. what i would do is to have 2 reputable places check it out and give you an estimate as to what it would cost to make the car a driver (not a trophy), then deduct that from the price you are willing to pay (find out what they go for ... guys in this site will help you very much with that). i think this car was priced high if i remember correct - but it's very nice, at least cosmetically...if it's been garaged for 4-5 years, i'm sure there's a lot of leakage...good luck (i need it too!).

IMHO it is about $35-50K overpriced.....at the most....considering you'll immediately need to do belts, among other things on a car that has been parked 5+ years. Why does everyone who has a Boxer for sale suddenly think that they are worth 50-75% more than they were last year, because one car, yes, one car, sold for stupid money a few months ago to someone who now has it for sale again.........wonder why ?

Would highly recommend Motorcars International. Talk to Randy. 417-782-2190. FWIW, the price does seem high.

Best of luck with the purchase.

Yeah, I sent Newman a PM yesterday - but I think he was already talked out of selling his gorgeous car! I'm hoping he reconsiders, and makes it available again.

Welcome back to the other side of sanity. I'm a somewhat infrequent poster, but I must say, while skulking around trying to figure out what Boxers were/are about, your posts helped inspire me to get one. No kidding. When you announced you were selling yours, it was like my "conversion" was nullified!

I understand personal/business life changes and all, but however you find a way to justify keeping that beast, I'm glad for you.

Sorry for poking my head into this thread, but had to comment.

    NOW onto the 1984 512 BBi 49803 at Team Motorsport - -

Look what has happened here: An enthusiastic Boxer owner had some perfectly valid reason to undo himself from his Boxer. He'd considered it, weighed it out, looked at the financial reality to lighten the load, and... boom!

The thought of going Boxer-less (the car) was less appealing than the temporary need it would satisfy. Now if THAT'S not reason enough to look even harder, I don't know what is!

I've heard great things too about Team Motorsport, and their prices are expected to maybe "lead" the market a bit. Not a bargain type of place. (Are any, regardless of price?) Others have sold for higher of course.

You can throw the price guide that the Sports&Exotic publication lists for Boxers right out the slow-descending window though. That's way outdated.

Seems the 'mid' market is in the very high five figures, with exceptional examples such as theirs well-deserving of another 30-35%. I'm no dealer, and will certainly have my head handed me if I pretend to 'know' the market; I don't. That's just what I see. When you go north of those figures, seems your second PPI is a good thought - - whether for peace-of-mind or negotiation. Hard to lose on either.

Best wishes though, no matter what!

    Good day Paul,

Holy crap! I go away for a few days on work related duties and when I return, I see that you almost decided to sell your car! I am glad that you decided to stay in the Brotherhood, as it would not be the same without you!

    Cheers,

    Sam

I cant think of a nicer compliment, thank you.

Thanks everyone for being so nice, im shocked in a way. I figured I would get flack over it but not the great feedback I got. Wow, as corny as it sounds I think boxer owners are a unique bunch that stick together. Lets all have a big group hug, lol. :)

According to Hagerty, the best examples have been flat over the past 3 years selling in the $289K USD level. This one went for $329K, a premium over the most recent trends.

    Good day Paul,

Hard to say, but another Boxer was sold at Gooding (chassis 44391) for $240K:

    https://www.goodingco.com/vehicle/1983-ferrari-512-bbi-2/

so... we have another data point that somewhat contradicts 49803's elevated price.

Interestingly, a nice 400i 5-spd was sold last week for a strong price of $131600:

    https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/1984-ferrari-400i-gt-chassis-54119.615674/

With that there does appear to be some that will pay higher prices for nice cars.

    Cheers,

    Sam

Reality, I think BBI boxers are depending on condition 180 to maybe 250k cars in USA.
A 512BB in the USA does not fetch much premium.
You can find great unbmolested BBIs so the amount of work needed will be minimal.
A 512 BB is older and was probably driven far more so likely to need more work and there is minimal price premium.

365 Boxers are their own pricing 300-350k+. but most will need a complete redo so figure in another 150K..

in Europe Boxers sell for significantly more and there is a bigger price delta to the 512BB from a BBI, youre also unlikely to find low mile pristine BBIs there as you can here.

In Late 14/15 during the last peak BBIs were cresting 400k.

When the stock market goes off the bloom, all that newly created money is going to be looking for tangible assets again. If cars are part part that picture we may well see the 500k BBI. Or maybe that money will find a new market to bid up and it wont be cars.
