    Hi there.
I am new to the site and I would just like to introduce myself.

I am in the USA (southern California) , my hobbies have always been cars (not only hobby but my business too) and needless to say I have always been a Ferrari fan, actually it's always been my favorite make.
I have had the good fortune of driving and working on many of them (some vary rare ones too),but never actually owned one, I have worked on them since I was 17 years old when I started my apprenticeship on exotic cars.
One of my favorites has always been the 1984 GTO.
To me there are no better looking lines then that of the classic 308.
I decided to take on the project of rebodying a 308 with the GTO style, but before I do that I need to source the body panels, I don't mind using fiberglass panels at all, the only concern is that the panels that the mold came from have actually been taken of an original GTO if that's possible at all.
Not only am I rebodying a car but I am also going to do the complete engine modification as well (turning it longitudinally), yeah yeah I know it's one hell of a project, but I'm a firm believer if you going to try a copy a car, the least you can do it do it down to detail as much as possible.
My concern is the following: I know the car is 4 inches longer than the 308, does anyone have any info where they did the stretch? and does anyone one know of where I can find panels that are exactly proportioned to the original ones?

I am originally from Portugal but did my time on Ferrari's in South Africa, now I'm in the USA and just now starting to get back into Ferrari's.

I guess by now you've gather that I'm not just trying to make a GTO rebodying, but rather a GTO clone.

I would appreciate any help anyone can offer with regards to info of what I need.
I saw on the web a company in New York somewhere that advertised panels, but I think those will fit on to a stock 308, I need the ones that will fit on to a original GTO.

Thanks for the great website and forum you guys have here it's made for some interesting reading.

there are at least 2 people on this site who have or are in the process of rebodying their 308's. Have you tried a search? I'll try to find some threads that can be of help.

There are rebodies that use the standard lenght 308

Jim Carpenter also make the bodies, but does not have the best reputation for actually shipping parts. I bought a GTO front bumper and valance from him and they were fine when I finally got them. I think the valance make the 308 look a lot cleaner.

I'm not sure if either of these people sell the correct gto wheelbase version.

The frame on a gto is lengthed in front of the rear suspension. Just a heads up, I'd bet you'll have 60-80k in it before your done if you do all the work yourself.

Norwood build a Ferrari GTO speed record car based on a 308, they used genuine GTO panels to make molds and also some easy to change frame section or jigs, read it here: http://www.bobnorwood.com/5-liter%20288%20Power.htm
Maybe they still have something in a corner...

love how they used a 1969 " d " code Z28 engine. sounds like the heads were pontiac " super-duty" inspired. the ram air and SD heads were really ahead of thier time. but then emissions laws and the gas crisis ended thier time. i love the 288 and its very interesting to see the progression of technology. a member here recently sold a nice rebody, shame i missed it!! seems like it would be cheaper to buy a rebody and mod it, but who am i to say anything about modifying a ferrari!!! best of luck!!
