My 1985 308 GTSi seems to be spuing coolant out of a hose in the back of the car. This usually seems to happen after a bit of driving when the engine is at arounf 195 on the heat indicator. Does anyone know what this coold be? I also saw some steam coming out of the top of the coolant tank by the cap.

Start off with a new rad cap. If it still leaks after several drives then you have other issues

Where is the hose located? Have you properly bled the system of air? How old and what type ( 1.1 bar, .09 bar ) of coolant expansion tank cap are you using?

The hose is connected to the top part of the estension cooling tank. I have a .9 cap.

It may be your cap but I believe most of these overflow hose leaks are because of lack of proper air bleeding.

Change to a 1.1 bar rad cap and Don't overfill the tank, I think it should be filled to about 1 inch BELOW the BOTTOM of the filler neck. (that's where mine is and I get no drips from the overflow hose)

Steve is right. Use the 1.1 and ignore anyone that tells you not to.

new radiator cap for overflow tank is the cheapest and easiest first step but it may be time to have all the hoses changed as it is at that age and it's always a great sense of peace of mind to know the coolant will stay where it should

It's probably the cap. The spring tension gets weak and can't hold the pressure, so that's why it overflows out of the expansion tank overflow hose.

I had the same problem. I replaced the cap and it still happened. I drained the tank to about an inch below the top - problem solved....

If you look closely on the tank you will see a "MAX FILL" line. So with a cold engine fill it to that line and put on a new cap. Always check this after you bleed the system. If you over fill it will blow out the tank vent.
