I have a euro RHD 308 QV. I have been installing a new CD player this weekend and whilst under the dash I noticed a mystery socket. The mystery socket is attached to the small storage compartment on the bottom and far right of the dashboard, between the steering column and the door. It has a red wire live feed and a black wire earth, I have run a tester across it and its a constant live. My original thought given its location was that it was a holder for a bulb and was infact a curtesy light. The constant live has made me dismiss the idea.

Can anyone shed any light on what it is or what purpose it serves?

With the 308 tool kit came an emergency light which had a Euro / Hella type plug for which you have found the socket - lots of threads about them over the years including getting adaptors and/or new plugs

Anyone know what year they added that socket and light? Just curious, it is a pretty cool accessory.

My US '79 has no such thing as far as I know.

I do not think I have the socket nor accessory light. I have a GTS and I am going to check this afternoon. My car was made in December of '79 (one of the last carbed) and I am assuming the GTS and GTB had the same setup in this regard.

OK, the suspense was killing me so I went an took a look. Sure enough, under the dash is the socket to receive the connector for the accessory light!

I would have checked my tool bag but the way the car is stored for the winter makes that virtually impossible. I sure hope it is there!
