I have a 85 308 QV and was wondering if it's normal that the headlights pop up for just the parking lights? Seems silly....anyone? Can I modify so they are down and parking lights on? Thanks, Jeremy
that was normal for my '84 QV. I do recall seeing an electrical mod somewhere that would allow them to stay down when only the parking lights are on but don't recall where it was.
Hey Jeremy, great idea. It would be cool if the headlights would stay down and I could install brighter parking lights. Kind of like a poor mans daylight driving lights. I hate having my lights up during the day. Let me know if you figure out how to make the modification.
I didn't look at the linked thread, but my 84 Euro QV works that way - with the light stalk in the highest position, rotate it forward to turn on the park lights, and the headlights stay down. Move the stalk down one position, and the headlights come up with low beams illuminated (and of course, move down one more position for high beams). Maybe comparing the Euro wiring diagrams versus the North American wiring diagrams might uncover the differences?
I believe that the euro cars behaved that while while US cars pop the headlight up with the parking lights. No idea why, though.
The Mainlights (off) pop only up at US Cars without Flashlights (sorry, don't know the right word, mean the additional lights under the bumper - see my car with additional lights). These Lights are the headlight flasher and high beam lights. At my 84 turbo GTS (similar to 84 308 QV) the mainlights stay down, when I lift the lightswitch (parking light) and the flasher lights up, when I pull the lightswitch (in any position). The US cars have dual-lights in the mainlights (beam and high beam in one bulb), therefore the mainlight have to come up for any function of lightning. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Same with my French 85 Euro QV. Only difference is I have yellow flash to pass lights that look like fog lights. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, I hate that look as well and have been meaning to get around to modifying mine. Someone posted a link in this thread, although I haven't read it yet, I did read something sometime ago regarding this modification and it said it required the soldering in of a diode somewhere. It stated that it was something that could simply be bought at an electronics store.. I'm not sure of the type of diode etc.. and haven't had the time to follow-up on this project as yet.. so it would be helpful for anyone who has completed this mod to chime in.
