Any information on this car would be greatly appreciated? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/?cmd=ViewItem&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648&item=150823761330&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT Thanks Brian
Have nno pull the vin for you, and the carfax...the luggage alone included with the books and tools and some service history is pretty darn Good for 55 grand if the ar checks out well, this is an awesome price.
What a complete car! Examples like this are why there is no money in restoring TR's yet. If it passes a PPI, have them throw in a car cover and consider it very well bought at $55K.
Great great car. The flying mirror models, in this color combo and complete like this one, can only go up. Love it.
1985's had the metric wheels and tires; Michelin TRX 240/45VR 415 front, 280/45VR 415 rear. Hard to find and $$$$ as hell. Joe
Stop getting so hung up on the luggage.. Who gives a **** if it comes with luggage.. First off the interior looks like it was re-done.. I'm not crazy about the service records.. complete 15K belt service. Some are hand written, some are computerized from the same vender.. The earlier ones are the ones that are computer generated. Get a thorough PPI and make sure everything is in order. The clutch was not replaced, only the master cylinder per invoice.. Customer supplied clutch? My lord the labor was crazy.. plus the no start issue was never resolved.. He swapped the coils, car started, swapped back, car started again.. Customer stated to change modules but there is no parts for coil on invoice.. Sounds like a classic connector issue, never resolved.. Its a great price even if you have to complete an engine out belt service again.. Why would anyone call a 15k belt service just that.. especially if you own the car.. My radar is up on this one boys.. Just be careful and lets not jump into this car just because it has a full luggage set.. Its a great bonus no doubt but forget about that for now.. Make sure the car is what it is supposed to be.. The driver door seems off to me.. Check for accident damage as well.. Looks like it needs tires as well. they look like they are old.. The picture showing the front tire, that tread is not a TRX tire.. TRX tires would only fit on those metric wheels.. thats odd to me.. Wheels locked from rust.. replaced brake shoes but calipers not addressed.. Look at the other picture showing the TRX tread.. R
I'd ask a few questions considering how the car has been described. The only invoices showing actual belt work is dated Jul/2001. Has it really been 11years since the last engine out major? And at a mere $83.70 ea. Were those Hill Tensioners on that 07/01 invoice. And DID the E-brake shoe replacement cure that low speed noise in the right rear reported Aug 07? Has the noted A/C leak been addressed as evidence by the frequent recharges? Was the inop. C/C blower motor speed resistor ever installed? Just sayin...
I dont know what you guys are expecting for 55 grand...but when you find that Perfect TR where every single thing is addressed to perfection , and at this price point... call me . 50-55 grand is pretty decent from the pics I see at first glance. The junk out there for 45 grand is beyond belief.. This car shows pretty good for the money, and single mirrors are hard to come by , and the fact it doesn't have that nonsense mouse belt is a big plus.... I would of thought you guys would have seen some positives, I didn't think we were at a concourse event. Get a ppi done, see how many owners on title, and make sure the miles they are claiming follows the wear / tear of the car.... It's a 27 yrs old car , not a 3 yr old car.
Great post. I'm kinda sorta in the market... Too busy working to actually aggressively go look at cars, but at the same time I have money set aside.... So, I love looking at whats for sale and I sure like the early Testies. The interior looks freshened up, the drivers door looks like its sagging, and I guess any of us could cough up a stack of documentation like that.... But I'd like to think we can trust eachother more than that. If it passed a PPI and a full shakedown from a known Ferrari mechanic.... I'd say its a good buy. The bronze one for sale,,,, now thats a good looking car! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ferrari-Testarossa-1988-Bronze-Metallic-Testarossa-AC-5K-Miles-308-328-Ferrari-F-430-512-/251069236107?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item3a74e4838b
I think it is a GOOD buy that could be an even BETTER buy as the seller is claiming, "NEW BELT SERVICE ON AUGUST 2011" "15K BELT SERVICE PERFORMED IN 2003" "The new belts have less than 500 miles on them!!!" yet his receipts show belts in 07/2001 and 12K miles ago.
Agree.. Just looking for the seller to be truthful.. Its a great buy for $55 grand.. If its in line.. Its just seems off.. I hope it checks out and buyer can get himself a nice piece for a really nice price.. R
I was looking at this car too, but it has 84K plus miles or more. The mileage was 75k rollback and then another 9k miles. Look at the report on the eBay link, but the car does look very low mileage. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LUGGAGE-SET-15K-BELT-SERVICE-RECORDS-PRISTINE-/150823761330?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item231dcbf5b2#ht_81923wt_1167
Early 86s like mine also had these. I finally found the badly needed rears but with a 2006 DOT date last month. The front tires are easier to come by as they also were used on a BMW M model.
Those front tires are correct TRX tread pattern. I have a set in my warehouse and just checked. I wondered why they are different from the rears but they just are. Any way those tires are pretty old any way you look at them.
What I was told was that the fronts are really the type for the BMW M cars that also used them while the rears are the original Testarossa style. They are different speed ratings, too - but I am not worried about that as I do not plan to run it up to 180+ mph. Everybody with these metric single-bolt wheels is eventually going to have to face this issue. Probably best to start looking about for a spare set of 16.5" size single bolt wheels.
You've seen the rest, now come to Monterey in August and buy the best... http://www.russoandsteele.com/collector-car/1986-Ferrari-Testarossa/23581
Time to move on. Can't handle the pressure of owning such a fine example. I like to drive my cars - this one belongs with a collector. Not at all! Btw, sorry for the shameless self promotion of the auction. My only intent was to give you guys a heads up. R&S do a fine job of marketing without my help.
