What exhaust should I use as an upgrade to the stock exhaust?

If by "upgrade" you mean "louder," Tubi is a popular choice. If by "upgrade" you mean more power, there is no such thing as a muffler "upgrade," despite the claims of folks trying to sell you one based on that. ;)

This; there is no progress in power to be expected.
Plus, remember that the sound you hear at the wheel of the car may differ a lot of the one by-standers hear; and that some aftermarket exhausts can become quite tiring for the driver (and the passenger...) after a few hundred miles: drone, harmonic vibrations, etc...the ideal would be to have a ride in a car equipped by the one you are thinking of.
That being said, and if you don't mind loosing some originality, and parting with some more money, some exhaust systems are really beautifully made and visually superb, if you go for the whole complete line, that is manifolds plus "tronchetti" (= intermediary pipes) plus the exhaust box or silencer.

I just received a full stainless 'sport' system, including headers, from Nouvalari. The fit and finish and sound is just outstanding, and price is unbeatable. Muffler alone is around $2k shipped. Headers were $1800.

Perhaps it is not the place nor the thread, but; For What it Is Worth, I feel compelled to state here again that, as far as headers go...for those non-familiar with the matter
Two-valve 308 engines (carbed and 2-valve injected) headers have round tubes (section at the engine exhaust ports).
Four-valve 3x8 engines (Quattrovalvole & 328) headers have oval tubes...
    Don't get the wrong ones...

Did you run a Magnaflow 2 in 2 out muffler? I did that on a 2v GTB years ago with 2 Hedman tips and it was just outstanding.

In the for what its worth department. A very good friend who is an engineer for a very famous racing engine company everyone here knows of owns a 512TR. They have dyno tested every commercially available exhaust system for the car. The OE Ferrari system makes the most power.

As odd as it sounds Ferrari does know a little something about building performance cars.

For me, I actually like to drive mine....hours and hours at a time. Race cars and guns have caused enough hearing damage. Both of ours have stock mufflers.

Tubi / Test Pipe / K & N filter . 89 328 104 K miles and still going strong, the Tubi also has a period correct sound for the 328. Some say no, but my car has fully woke up, and Im sure I have at least 10 more HP, Tubi rep back in 2000 said, and I think he was pretty honest , 7 % increase. That cat converter gets so hot, just the decrease in engine compartment temp makes getting rid of the cat well worth it< A tech once test drove my car at 99k miles and said it ran better than a 328 in his shop with 6000 miles. 120 MPH in 4th , which is not breath taking, but not bad for what the car is . One can never be sure unless the car is put on the Dyno .Fab Speed did a Dyno with their sport cat and the stock muffler and got 231 at the rear wheels on an 86 328, then they used a by pass pipe to replace the muffler, and got 243 at the rear wheels. Also in the F CHAt thread , some guys used a test pipe and their stock muffler, and could feel the car wake up and pull harder. I would bet my car has at least 225 at the rear wheel if not more. I should find a Dyno shop near me at some point and get the 328 tested.

"Fab Speed did a Dyno with their sport cat and the stock muffler and got 231 at the rear wheels on an 86 328,"

ANYTIME a seller of something quotes dyno numbers, the first reaction should be, "I want to see an independent shop do a dyno test - one that has NO interest in whether the product sells or not."

I've participated in dyno tests that were so misrepresented that it is impossible for me to take any product advertisements with dyno tests seriously. One claimed a 13 Hp increase over stock when there was actually a 7 HP REDUCTION compared to OEM mufflers.
