Can someone post a picture of what the original gas cap looks like? I did some research but am not sure if it is all plastic or if top part is aluminum or steel with rubber ring. Oh, an if someone has one to sell, let me know (but it has to be factory correct). My current one is aluminum with black “Ferrari” script. Thx. Martin

My original is all metal, the aluminum one I think is also pretty cool. I see them on Ebay now and again.

    Thank you ,

The stock gas cap is a metal piece (with the threads) that's overmolded with a soft plastic/rubber material (that way, it's cooler to the touch -- same reason the stock shift knob is a plastic material):

(That price is ridiculous. I know there are similar, if not identical, gas caps used on Fiats of the same era -- probably Lancia, too.)

I see aluminum caps very often (sort of a rosette style), and that is what my 328 has. Was that an aftermarket thing or something Ferrari offered?

On 308s before 1978, it was actually the same gas cap as on the contemporary Lada Niva, also a legendary car, but in a different league...

See Steve's post # 3 above; there was only one gas cap for the whole production run, there was no alternative. Any different cap is a later addition.

This is what I have, must have been put on by the previous owner:

Now that I think about it, I recall seeing the original cap stuffed in the pouch with belts/bulbs/etc and will need to look for it next time I have the car out. I don't particularly like that aluminum cap since it's awkward to handle.

Well, quite a number of owners choose in the past to substitute the shiny aluminium one to the original, because it was...shiny, and also stamped "Ferrari"; but,as often "less is more": as my "other half" uses to say "why would someone need those additional parts here-and-there to be stamped "Ferrari", isn't it already obvious what car this is?"
The good thing is that should you not want to keep the aluminium one, the price quoted for a new one makes you almost a rich man...

    £1175 with VAT/tax ($1478) for a fuel cap? - That's just crazy money!
