1988.5 TR fuse question

When you say "airflow" switches I assume you mean the LED indicator switches the control how much air goes to the footwell area. Hopefully you have a workshop manual for TRs as this shows how the center console is secured. Screws are in a number of places, inside the covered compartment (with the lid), in the little change tray just forward of that, and several other places. You will have to remove the side panels in the footwell areas first. Then with these off you should be able to determine the other attachement points. The console control panel slides out the front...but it is difficult I think. It's been a few years since I pulled one of those out, so my memory is a bit sketchy. But as I recall it's not too bad of a job. I did have the seats removed at the time....so that helped immensely. You will have to remove the seat belt clasps too. It would really help if you had a manual handy. The electrical short could be at or near the switches, or it could be at the flapper door control motors. Hopefully somebody else pops in here and sheds more light on this subject.

 

Removing the consol panel is very easy. Remove the small compartment just aft of it with the allen screw. Then look for a phillips head screw lying horizontially pointing forward in the middle of the opening, holding down the rear end of the console panel. Take it out with a short screwdriver. Now reach down through the hole and push upward on the rear end of the control panel working it upward past the illumination bezels in the leather on each side. Once past the bezels and high enough to grab the rear of panel just cautiously pull the entire unit up and free of the console.

It's harness is not all that long but if you protect the edges of the console with rags you can just twist it upside down and lay it on the top of the console to work on the electricals.
