Completed installing the interior LED lights in my 1988 Ferrari Testarossa. The BA9SF lights are about the same brightness as the incandescent lights they replaced and the other LED lights look brighter especially the interior Feston Lights. Waiting on a couple of lights for the exterior.

Of course, when there is plenty of time this is a very good enhancement for the car ...

No more bulbs / lights that will need replacement afterwards !

Great job; please keep us informed with lots of pics !

Keep in mind, if it's blingking, you HAVE to have a resitor on that circuit

(coming from someone that just did all LED lights on his bimmer... turn signals wouldn't work... multiple bulb-out warnings, etc)

The car has to see the total resistance of a cingle circuit as the same regardless of whether it uses lights or LEDs. Except LEDs are naturally 1/10th the resistance of incadescents. Keep that in mind.

So far no problems other than the turn signal flashing fast which can be fixed with an electronic flasher, but just may leave as is because I kind of like the faster flash rate. Do not have to worry about installing resistor as a 1988 Testarossa does not have bulb-out warnings ect.

Just curious, how those LEDs are holding after a couple of years ?

    Good day Adam,

I cannot speak towards the original poster's LED light status, however, what I can say is that my experience with the latest LED lights are having a really low success ratio. I have been involved in the LED lighting industry for about 10 years now and have seen a marketed decline in quality. The best way I can phrase it is that there is a race to the bottom to produce LED lights for as little as possible... and this appears to be across all LED lights and not just in auto bulbs, but in building lighting applications as well. The result is a trade off between quality, reliability, longevity, and cost.

Currently, I have been purchasing a number of auto LED replacement bulbs and have yet to find any that I would consider a solid replacement to even the most basic LED bulbs such as the1156 and 1157 that are commonly used. The better LED bulbs use additional circuitry to ensure LED longevity, but this increases the product cost and limits it used because of the lack of available space within the space that the LED bulb is to replace. Other vendors use cheap or cheaper LEDs and over drive them in order to get more light out of them resulting in substantially reduced lifetimes and/or heat generation.

That said, spending more $ on supposedly "better" LED replacements will not always result in a better bulb... and so it is still very much a Wild West out there. Once I complete my review and assessment of the various bulbs I acquired, I will post up so others can benefit from my efforts.

    Cheers,

    Sam
