Interesting that the Seller doesn't mention the 512TR? wheels.

Seems like a rational asking price to me (assuming no big surprises) considering that FoDenver has a red/tan 29K mile 5-lug TR at ~$89.9K asking (and had another one with slightly higher mileage at ~$79K ask recently IIRC).

very little info to go on. assuming a recent major and no issues, the asking price is reasonable. i think the mileage is "high" for a testarossa, and ever so close to 40K. once the big 4-0 rolls on your odometer, it will be a tough sell. consequently, if i were to buy it i would not want to pay more than low 50s.

I f thats your budget and no issues on the PPI then it is a good deal but recognise the cost of maintaing the car and beware if you end up wanting to trade it in a couple of years with that mileage it will be difficult. If your budget allows then get a lower mileage car thats been upgraded it will hold its value longer.

Maintenance is a killer on Testarossas - trust me, I know this intimately. Its a fantastic car when its running well, but make sure to put aside $5k-$10k for yearly maintenance if you are going to drive this car. But again, its a fantastic car when its running well.

    DIY Maintenance

Are you at all a DIY mechanic on your present/past cars? Because if you are, with the WSM (Work Shop Manual), SPC (Spare Parts Catalog) and Electrical Diagram, the Testarossa is a fairly easy car to work on. They run around $300-$500 for the three hard bound ones if you shop around. I have even seen some folks on eBay sell them on CD’s for a lot less than the hard bound.

Access to the engine and its components is very good and once you are familiar with the lubrication and cooling points and how to service them, you will learn these cars can be fun to tinker with. And as you know you also have Ferrarichat to help on more complex issues.

Another good thing about the Testarossa is that its engine is literally two flat-inline six cylinders. With exception to the FI management box, you have two of each component to make up the whole engine. So, you can swap sides with components to test them and see if an issue follows it to the other bank.

For parts, a lot of the FI parts are Bosch and there are several sources for Bosch parts. I have compiled and extensive list for most for the 1984-1991 cars of mostly off the shelf parts that can be bought either locally or online (Ricambi).

Let me know (anybody) if you would like that list. It’s in an Excel spreadsheet.

IMO I can say that I have learned a ton with these cars and F-chat has helped tremendously when I occasionally get stumped. Keep in mind; I am by no means a professional mechanic.

So, if you feel confident enough in your DIY skills, I say for 56K (or less if you haggle down some) this would be a fun car for you. And of course, I would have a PPI done. I believe Ron Tonkin Gran Turismo of Portland is near the car in. (503) 255-7560 http://www.tonkin.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=location.detail&locationID=12

PM me if you would like to check out my TR, your not too far up I-5 from me.

    Either way, good luck!

My tr does not cost me 5-10k a yr.
Im on my 8th yr now, if you buy the right car with no issues, it will be fine. Te problem is, every tr says 20,000 kms on the clock , but thye actually have 120k...just beaware of what you are buying and compare....

I heard about electrical, melting of boards.....mine are still brand new, and my dash hasnt shrunk, and the belts every 7 yrs costs about 6-7k....aside from oil and tranny and rad flushes the cars are perfect.

I just hit 55,000 kms on my yesterday....which is around 35,ooo miles....if the books and service is all there for this car then it should be a fine car. Do a PPI. I have every single oil change, belt change in my book for my car over the last 8 yrs ive had mine. And its been a dream. I also have about 8 yrs prior to my ownership. Paper work is the most important. Make sure this car checks out. no paperwork.....no paper trail.....walk away.
