What diameter and length? Any chance a section of clothes dryer outlet hose might work?

Contact Daniel over at Ricambi. Mine disintegrated and he provided a suitable replacement.

These things are NLA but in reality , as long as the mesh core and the end pieces are OK I do not think they are difficult to repair/re-cover with something that looks pretty much OEM.

The stuff you want is PVC Nitrile foam. I have some samples here kindly provided by another UK FChatter & also some I have sourced elsewhere to replace the firewall insulation. Its non flammable, oil/fume resistant & good for 120 degrees C which should be more than enough. If you start looking at the specs of foam sheeting generally you will find its pretty much the most resiliant stuff there is. It's also closed cell (so it doesn't absorb moisture) and has a mat black facing to it & feels similar to the original. If there is a downside to it its that you can tear the facing if you arn't sensible/careful with it - but that would have been the same with the OEM parts

Here in the UK we can buy it in sheets with our without a "peel & stick" backing & its not that expensive.

    Hi Iain

Is this the stuff that can be used to replace the firewall? and the area stuck to the rear luggage compartment? if so where can I buy some from?

    Hi Rod,

the stuff I am looking at is coming from here:

    http://www.rhnuttall.co.uk/Materials/Foam_or_Sponge/NitrileorPVC-Foam.html

Its about 50-55 quid for a 2x1m sheet

    This is the data sheet:

    http://www.rhnuttall.co.uk/userfiles/file/PVC%20Nitrile%20Foam%20Data%20Sheet.pdf

I've also got the spec sheet for the glue they put on it when they make the "peel & stick" version. Its also good to 120 deg C with intermittant use to 200 deg c

    They can supply it in pretty much any thickness you want: 5mm, 6mm, 7mm, 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 15mm, 20mm and 25mm

We used to get ours from International Plastics. We stopped selling them simply because of low demand. They were designed to withstand the oil, heat, UV, etc, of the engine bay and we never had any complaints with them. They were black hoses, I think -- but we needed to purchase like 250 feet or some crazy length.
