Hey all, My turn signals are not functioning. Given all my ongoing electrical issues figure it’s a fuse or relay issue. I replaced fuse 23 (as indicated in the owners manual) for “direction indicator lights”. That didn’t work. Want to try and replace relay J for “flasher for direction indicators” to see if that’s it. But the owners manual bizarrely has no part number for it. Any idea what it is? A bosch part like the others? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks guys. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I think that the indicator relay is part 61048000 and various vendors sell it. I just had a similar issue with turn signals on my 308 and after replacing the relay, still didn’t work. Turned out to be some connection issues in the indicator stalk itself. My mechanic removed it and checked/cleaned the contacts and it worked again. There are also aftermarket indicator stalk out there if you need a replacement, or Unobtainium supposedly refurbishes them, although they never responded to mi inquiries.
Do your hazard lights work? The hazard and turn signal functions both use the same relay. If it's a US 89 car, the relay is 61651800. 61048000 is for RoW cars.
Thank you for this. I had the same issue w my headlight stalk and sent it to Jim Simpson at ODD Parts for a refurbishment. Works great and highly recommend him. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Thanks Dave. Yup it’s a U.S. car so I’ll try it. I didn’t check the hazards but will when I’m home again. Really appreciate the support. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
One more question for you - I poked around in the passenger wheel to see how to access the fuse panel down there (as opposed to the fuse board behind the dash) and couldn’t for the life of me figure out where it is. I didn’t want to rip the carpet out. Any guidance on how to get to it? Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Pull back the carpet and there is a panel secured by 2 or 3 screws, but from memory that panel houses the relays for the A/C
If you're looking for the TS/hazard flasher, on the 89 it is under the dash near the ignition switch. There is an ABS relay in the location where the flasher used to be on 86-88 cars.
Haha,...ridle...its behind that upper panel above the passengers knees...secured with 2 round bolts. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Mine did the same thing years ago. The hazard switch itself was the problem. No hazard operation and turn signals did not work. Replaced the hazard switch and all good. Of course the hazard switch was cheap and easy to get back then.
Still curious about the hazard light operation. If the problem does end up being the hazard switch, don't replace it until you've at least cleaned it first. Those switches are used so infrequently that they have a tendency for dirt and grime to build up on the contacts and prevent juice from flowing through it.
For sure, clean and inspect first. Mine was in bad shape, so it was replaced. I sold it on eBay as broken, and someone bought it. Hopefully it found a good home.
Im not sure if this applies , but when I was having all these electrical problems, I had to have my fuse board rebuilt on my 89 328, now all is well. G
So finally got back in the garage this weekend. I need to try to replace relay j for “flasher for direction indicators”. I’ve got the right part number (thanks to Dave Bertrand). I just don’t know where the this fuse panel is. Dave Bertrand says it’s under the dash below the ignition switch. But I thought it was under the passenger footwell - I think that’s what is shown on the owners manual diagram. My carpets are glued there so before I pull them up want to make extra sure I’m poking around in the right place. Thoughts? Image Unavailable, Please Login Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Yes, they are 100 percent under the carpet, instead of gluing carpet back in place when you’ve finished the job .apply Velcro strips to back of the carpet and the panel/ floor, so much easier then for future, most have it this way.
