I was thumbing through a ferrari book yesterday called ferrari idea, an in house publication to celebrate 40 years of production ferraris. (I think) There is a photo in the book which caught my eye. It shows mondial convertables on the assembly line on the left. On the right is a line of 12 and 8 cylinder engines. In the foreground is a full size wood and resin buck/model described in the text as the new 348. Problem is, it's a 355. This book was published in 1989. Were the strakes a last minute change? Any one know the story?
    Cheers, mike.D

Cheers for posting that Mike. I remember reading on here around 6 months ago, that Ferrari had come across some type of law(maybe just for the USA),that would not allow them to sell the 348/TR with the door scoop open as such. To do with safety if i recall? Thats why they had to add the door strakes. But then look at the 355,5 years later. No door strakes. Not 100% sure if that post was correct, but thats what im sure i understood from the post that i read back then. :) Maybe someone knows the 100% truth behind them? Surely not there just help with air-flow into the radiators? :D

I've never heard of any incidents involving things getting into a 355 door scoop with disastarous consequences. Perhaps at the time they were paranoid a bird might fly into one or something. Sounds kinda silly if you think about it.

Although I've seen a scoopa on a Bugatti, forget the name of it now. Might've been a concept, but it looked like you could fit your head in the rear quarter scoops.
