1989 Seat Dyeing Process

Does anyone know for certain if the leather dye on a 1989 348 was vat-dyed, or sprayed on? The guy with Leatherique told me yesterday that you can definitely go from black to saddle (he went from navy blue to magnolia on his Rolls Royce). However, yesterday someone said that the 1989 leather was vat-dyed, and could not be stripped like the earlier models, without turning it into velour.
