Why is that ? Please hold comments like these unless you have something to substantiate your opinion. G
nope. Some people made challange cars by adding seats, wheels, brakes etc etc but they were not from the factory and not true challange cars.
It's my understanding that when the series started, there were no factory prepared Challenge Series cars. They were all converted with a dealer option which was available to retrofit earlier cars. G
This is quite correct. In fact, only a VERY small percentage of 348 Challenge cars were the so-called "factory" Challenge models from '94, and quite a few of those cars were never fitted with the Challenge kit and/or never raced, so THEY are the ones that aren't "real" Challenge cars, having never turned a wheel in competition.
Not correct. See my comment above. In fact, if a car didn't have the Challenge kit installed (and even the so-called "factory" Challenge cars needed the kit added) it wasn't a real Challenge car. EVERYONE (even those buying the late factory Challenge model) needed to add the seats, wheels, etc. supplied in the kit (under the auspices of a Ferrari dealer) in order to participate.
Ira, That is what I was referring to. There were true challange cars with the "factory" kit making them challange cars (I referred to them as factory) and non-factory challange cars (non factory e.i. no kit)
There were 45 (32tb and 13ts) "factory" challenge cars built in '94 only. They were sold as street cars, but had alot of modifications from the factory including lightweight front and rear bumpers, solid bushings, stiffer springs, different brake lines, challenge exhaust. Only about 1/2 were converted and raced. Check out www.redfcar.com Most also carried a #plaque for Series challenge tb or ts. ANY 348 could be converted to 348 challenge with addition of the challenge kit and upgrades to SS specs for ECU. So, if they claimed that is a challenge car it could very well be. 104K miles though.
Well...from the phone number (415), the car *does* appear to be in the SF area. Perhaps I should go have a looksie?
I would like to look at it too, the dealer is not... shall we say does not have a stellar reputation, but a neat car is a neat car. The "Challenge" items I see on that car: ummm... none. No seats, no roll cage, no fire bottle, I do see: Non-Challenge belts, carpet, door panels It appears to have sort of Series Speciale, maybe Challenge front spoiler(s)
