It pains me to make this ad. I've always wanted one of these Tdi Discoverys, and have waited till they were legal here in the US with the 25 year rule. Finding a good condition 3 door tdi Disco is incredibly challenging. Most of these are completely rotted out, or non working V8 models.

Here in the US, we got stuck with the V8, that was prone to headgasket issues. Literally every single one on the road will eventually have headgasket failure. That engine also suffers from other known issues, and terrible fuel economy. A good clean Disco here still commands a premium, and that's with the issue prone V8. A few people have made the swap to the TDI diesel motors, but that's not legal and nothing will ever work like a factory made vehicle. The few swapped examples have been listed and traded in the 10k range. Not bad for a wonderful looking timeless vehicle, that would now be reliable and return excellent fuel economy.

I love automobiles and motorcycles, one of my only hobbies. I go through countless vehicles a year, and have never had issues till very recently. I just got a letter stating I cannot own any more vehicles. Applying to become a dealer isn't a smart financial move, for myself at this times. As stated, I go through a lot of vehicles but 99% of that is personal enjoyment, not with the intent of making any income from sales.

I'm forced to sell something I've wanted for a very long time, and had plans to fit a roof top tent on it and trek across the US with my girlfriend. Looks like that plan will have to change.

I purchased the vehicle, and did so a little bit ago. Brexit and other small things have prolonged it being shipped here. Everything is ready to go, and it can be on a ship to the US from the UK next week. I can provide a customs broker, along with a shipping company. It will cost you only $1,580 to have it shipped from the UK to either Savannah, GA, or Charleston SC. Price doesn't really change with either location. Having it shipped to either NY or Baltimore or somewhere further north might actually lower the price?

Onto the details of the Land Rover. Pretty straight forward:

1990 Land Rover Discovery rare 3 door
    Automatic
    Right hand drive
200 tdi TurbobDiesel engine. A new engine was fitted and had under 60 kilometers on that motor.
It's stock, and has the factory upgraded dog barrier for inside if that's something you wanted.
    25 mpg

I will provide photos of the actual vehicle tomorrow. These are stock Google photos, and appear to be stock photos from when it was new. It's the same exact paint scheme though. Obviously it's not a brand new vehicle, but it's in great shape for the age.

    I'm only asking $5,500 usd

If you don't mind my asking, who can tell you that you can't own any more vehicles, and on what basis? I've never heard of such a thing.

    The gubment.

You can only buy and sell so many vehicles a year. I think the majority of people never get hassled, but I go through a fair amount every year. Bound to happen at some point. I don't feel like getting into a battle. Been down that road with the government before. Not fun

I assume this is a state thing in NC. Presumably it's a result of lobbying by the dealers.

I think it's pretty much every state.

Actually being harassed it seems the chances are very low. I knew one day it would happen, pretty much since I've been able to drive I've gone through a min of 5 cars a year.

Completely bummed though. Good to take a break from purchasing auto, looking at getting my pilots license to tackle some free time :)

Not that it's any of my business, but from your post it sounds like the Disco is still in the UK. If so, it might be easier to sell by leaving it there and consigning with a reputable dealer. Just my $.02 and worth about as much.;)

Yes still in the UK. Says so in the listing. Hence, why someone would need to pay the shipping costs. I cannot own anything else, or it would already be on its way here.

With shipping you would be at 7k, which for a factory fitted turbo diesel disco here in the US is a solid price. These 3 door early disco are even hard to find in the Uk, let alone in good shape. I've seen two swapped US spec discos for sale around the 10+k mark. Purchasing one of those, you would have an illegal vehicle and there's no way it would end up being as clean as a factory built unit. Someone would be able to have some fun with this, and resell for a profit if they so wished.

I've been asked a few times, yes it's 100% legal.

The only thing I'm not sure about is California, I think you would have emissions headaches there? Otherwise smooth sailing.

I tried editing the original post, but was unable to. There is very light bubble forming in a few spots, not through the paint. Easily fixable, and the cost would be minimal.

If interested, send me an email address and I can send photos.

    Cheers

I agree with Jack, seems pointless to offer vehicle in U.S. If you tell me where the disco is parked,I might be able to suggest someone who could move it S.O.R.

Can you send some pictures? Also, did you already have shipping arranged, but just not paid for? I've never imported. Thanks.
