Greetings all.. Looking to replace my stock oem air filter with a high performance air filter (preferr it to be a dry type vs. the K & N - oil type). I am open to the K & N but I was wondering what everybody else is using or recommends. All help is greatly appreciated..

    Dear Ferraristi,

    Hi Robbie,

I use the K & N filter in my 91 Testarossa and my Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster....no problems.

Both cars do not use mass flow sensors or hot wire sensors so the slight oil residue is not a problem. In fact, if you look at your TR air intake, you will see the crankcase ventilation tube go right into it and feed just in front of the K jet units....oil residue re-injested into the engine.

The Lambo uses throttle plates with an electronic position sensor....again, slight oil residue no problems.

I wouldn't use one in my F 250 though...the mass flow sensor will get false readings with the oil residue. Actually, electronic shifting problems have been attributed to false readings on the mass flow due to K & N oil residue.

I use the K&N as well. Maybe I was imagining, but I thought the car sounded a little better and had a little more HP.

Thanks for the input guys... Shamile - you read my mind. I was worried about the possible oil residue.. I know you have to apply the oil lightly... K & N it is... Thanks again..

K&N now for past 4+ years, no problem. Car seems to have more punch and improved sound out of Tubi w/test pipes.

The many tests posted on the internet that include K&N air filters basically state the same thing - K&N filters flow a little more air (less pressure drop) but at the expense of poorer filtration. I remember one test that concluded K&N initially flowed better, but soon became clogged and flowed less than typical paper filters. FWIW, I've stayed with oem style paper filters and that's what I use in my TR.
