It does not match the factory material, but many people here recommend the heat resistant insulation sold by JC Whitney. I bought some (along with high temp contact adhesive in a spray can), cut the stuff to fit, sprayed it, and stuck it to the lid. It fell off about an hour later so I gave up. It is a Ferrari, who needs sound insulation anyway??? I have not had any degradation to the paint without the insulation.

Yeah....my last TR didn't have the insulation and no ill effects ever on the engine cover. My current TR has the insulation but it is slightly decomposing. I'm probably gonna rip it off and maybe just spray the underside of the engine cover matt black or something.

I bought some from my local F dealer for my Mondial and the price was only $30ish. FWIW

The JC Whitney stuff fell off? That's the first time I heard that. Did you run it underneath those two support braces? Did you tape it in place while the adhesive cured? I have the same stuff on mine, and it has been in place for >2 years. I wonder if the adhesive has changed or something.

I'm anxious to hear your answers because whenever a customer asks be about insulation, I suggest the Whitney stuff. If it's beginning to fail, then obviously I won't recommend it anymore
