Thanks for the info my brother ---If I went that route I would do something that has latches...I don't want to be speed restricted or test old thread at highway speeds. Hopefully the shims will take care of everything and I don't have to spend more ducketts : )

Yep.. mine has the latches. Part No. 63380800.

I like the looks of it when it's on too. It's also a heck of a lot easier to store in the car as opposed to lugging the OEM targa in and out. No matter how careful I am with the top I always managed to scrape it across the leather ECU covers.

It's probably one of the best purchases I've made for the car - aside from the belt services ;)

Was that with sales tax? (Sorry but I'm not sure how it all works in the USA with your sales tax system - The tax is always included in the price in the UK)

Part No. 63380800 is the part number for the official Ferrari version without the latches, not the FNA version! (There is no Ferrari part number for the FNA version because it is not a Ferrari part!) - They don't even know what they're selling, the FNA tops should sell for a lot more than that!

Very commendable of you to leave the other tops for other owners to buy! - I suspect the reality was though that someone else bought all three to sell for a profit! (You've admitted yourself that you were tempted to do it! ;) )

Ha! You'd think the ferrari parts guys know what they are selling!

If i recall i think the box even had the 633 part number on it. Hmmm...

And anyhow 100mph is illegal isn't it ;)

My canvas top without the latches never fit my 355
It was too long....pulled the expanding latches so tight once that one of them snapped in two.

The roof needed to be around 2-3mm longer from windscreen to rear roof

No, and yours is a case in point of them not knowing what they're selling!:

Did your top come in a nice, yellow Ferrari box with loads of prancing horses all over it? - Like the one in this thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/348-355-sponsored-bradan/471483-folding-canvas-roof-355-gts.html , Or did it come in a Ferrari North America box?

Here's what has happened in your case:

ALGAR Ferrari have got their hands on some new "old stock" Ferrari North America folding soft tops (or had them originally and forgot all about them until recently), they couldn't find a part number for them so looked up "348 folding top" on their Ferrari 348 parts list and thought (incorrectly), that the folding tops they had were the same as the listed version and so sold them for $1050.

They shouldn't really have been put under Part No. 63380800, and they should have been sold for twice the price, so you've lucked into an absolute bargain! (And air play to you! :) ).

If you do a search for Ferrari Part No. 63380800, you'll find that every other thread states that this is the number for the folding roof that doesn't have latches (not just on Fchat but on the other Ferrari owners sites as well).

Ask ALGAR Ferrari to price up the 348 latches and the rear pins, and then tell us how an entire folding roof with latches and pins included, would be priced by Ferrari Spa (not ALGAR Ferrari but Ferrari Spa Italy) for less than just the latches and pins - Ferrari Spa would not make that kind of error!

It's not just Ferrari dealers who get it wrong with parts for older cars:

Two weeks ago whilst perusing ebay, I spotted a Ferrari parts specialist who had a brand new left and right side 348 lower light cover for sale for £98 each (Left cover Part No. 144816 & Right cover part No. 144817 ).

Now I know that the left side cover is available everywhere, no problem at all (Eurospares have them in stock for £77.80), but the right side cover (next to the air-con intake), cannot be found anywhere in the World for love or money, so I snapped it up instantly within two hours of it going on sale.

It turned up, the correct part, in original Ferrari factory packaging - complete with the Ferrari Factory parts label on it - For the £98 as advertised.

I know for a fact that due to its rarity, they could have asked twice the price for that cover - And would have got it too!

I suspect someone has since informed the parts company of just how rare the right side cover is and that they have made a mistake, because they're now trying to sell the available left cover for £165! (As I say, it's readily available from Eurospares for £77.80).

So it pays to keep your eye out for a bargain!

I've heard rumours to that effect! - By the same token I've heard that when a Delorean hits 88mph it goes back in time! ;)

Recycling an old thread - if anyone has a 1990 or 1991 can share your top latch pics?

Also - any foldable tops for sale?
