I'm fitting a becker head unit in place of an old Kenwood head unit/multi changer that the PO had fitted when I bought my 348 many years back. My question relates to the radio antenna situation.

I have what looks like an 'aftermarket' Bosch radio antenna amplifier stuck in the top left corner on the inside of my windshield, from which there are two wires radiating outward, one heading across toward the rear view mirror and one travelling vertically down toward the dashboard, each look like they are set into a narrow bead of silicone or similar.

After removing the Kenwood head unit my intention was initially to simply swap across the antenna connector and antenna amplifier power feed cable from the Kenwood to the Becker. However, behind the centre console I found a more traditional antenna cable just sat doing nothing, looking very much like a Ferrari standard fit antenna cable. Referencing the wiring diagram for the 348 it depicts a 'radio antenna' (item 171), and also a 'cable for antenna' (item 173). I've just started to trace the route of this 'standard(?)' cable on my car and it would appear to be heading toward the rear of the car somewhere.

Does anyone here know where the factory fit antenna for a 1991 TS would be physically fitted? If there is a factory fitted antenna on the end of my cable I would prefer to use that, and tear out the unsightly Bosch aftermarket job.

Or is it e.g. that the antenna cable was factory fitted for all markets, but in some markets has nothing hung on the end of it?

I would guess it once went to the oem antenna on the middle of the roof but someone most likely welded the hole shut and body worked it and painted it so you can't tell it was ever there and just cut the wire instead of pulling it out of the car .

Thanks Jeff, was the coax accessible through the roof light hole at the rear?

nice one, I'll give that a go.

Looking at the Ferrari wiring diagram I'm hoping that, for the UK at least, the cable has some sort of factory aerial hung on the end of it. If so perhaps its so weak most owners fit a power amplified windscreen antenna to get a better signal.

Jeff, any tips on how the interior light assembly can be removed without causing any damage?
