    History
At the turn of the 20th century, British gentlemen Charles Rolls and Henry Royce combined their last names, engineering skill, and business acumen to create the legendary automaker that remains associated with opulence and perfection to this day. Starting with the Silver Ghost of 1907, the company has a storied history including the manufacturing of airplane engines and its relationship with fellow high-end brands like Bentley and BMW.

Throughout that hundred-plus years, names like Phantom, Wraith and Cullinan have been associated the most outrageously lavish vehicles ever produced. Between 1980 and 1998, the Silver Spirit “SZ” line took the helm to become the platform for a host of motor cars like the Flying Spur, Silver Dawn and Bentley Mulsanne. Nine years into production, the Mark II series – of which today’s 1991 Silver Spirit II is part of – took over with a handful of refinements over the Mark I.

Honing Rolls’ reputation for ride quality, “Automatic Ride Control” was an upgrade that enabled real-time damper adjustment at all four corners. Anti-lock brakes and Bosch Motronic fuel-injection became standard equipment and aluminum alloy wheels were used for the first time. Only 1,152 of these Silver Spirit II’s were made and of those, just 169 left-hand drive models were made in 1991 - per RRSilverSpirit.com - making this very gently used example a rare Rolls-Royce in like-new condition.

    Exterior
Complementing the crisp, stately lines of this Silver Spirit II is the deeply reflective Midnight Blue paint that has benefitted from very light use over the years. Front and center is the Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament, inspired by Victorian-era actress Eleanor Thornton. She sits atop the signature Rolls-Royce Pantheon grille that draws its design form the ancient Greek temple with varying width slats to create “a design that appears more perfect than nature.”

Like the grille, chrome is used on body moldings, side mirrors, door handles and window surrounds, all of which looks to be in excellent condition. Double tan pinstripes run the length of both sides and aside from a dent in the driver’s side rear wheel arch, the body and paint are in incredible condition. 15-inch polished alloy wheels, the first such use on a Rolls-Royce, are wrapped in white-striped Goodyear Eagle tires sized 235/70.

    Interior
Tan leather covers the seats, door panels, dashboard and 2-spoke steering wheel, all of which shows very well. The seats, featuring blue piping, show light wear and are equipped with heat, power-adjustment and pneumatic lumbar support for the driver and front passenger. The blue theme continues with the carpeting and lower door trim, while walnut veneer is applied across the top of the doors and dash fascia.

Features include cruise control, power windows, back row vanity mirrors with overhead lights and foot rests for rear occupants. The instrument panel consists of a 240 kph speedometer with inset odometer and a combination gauge showing readouts for oil pressure, battery voltage, coolant temperature and fuel level. Notable cabin highlights include the dual-tone horns for town or country settings and rear door ashtrays with lighters.

Additional features include automatic climate control, folding front armrests and the original stereo with cassette deck. The headliner is tightly fitted and door seals look to be in pliable condition, all part of an overall presentation that shows off the sense of craftsmanship that went into building this Silver Spirit II.

    Mechanical
The original 6.75L Rolls-Royce L4101 V8 is fitted and benefits from annual oil changes. It is mated to the original GM-sourced 3-speed automatic spinning the rear wheels. All Silver Spirit II’s featured an innovative adaptive damper system and anti-lock brakes. This example appears to have a clean undercarriage, with the mounted spare visible, and comes with the original jack, tool set and roadside safety triangle. Factory documentation with Rolls-Royce folios are also included with the sale.

    Details
Located in Richmond, British Columbia, this stunning Midnight Blue Silver Spirit II shows just 5,400 km on the odometer. Originally delivered to Carter Motor Cars of Vancouver, this car has been in the area since, with one owner prior to this auction who always stored it in a garage. An extensive gallery details the impressive condition inside and out and there are no known issues per the seller. A classic within the long history of fine Rolls-Royce automobiles, this particular Silver Spirit II is sure to turn heads everywhere it goes.
