Hi All, I believe my oil sending unit is going bad but wanted to verify with my fellow FCHAT'ers before I ordered parts. Went for a short drive today and noticed my Oil pressure gauge was fluctuating but in the wrong direction. I gave her some gas and I saw the oil pressure go down instead of up. I have a picture below and a short youtube video of the issue. I believe the sending unit is the culprit because 1) Oil temp was normal. 2) No issues driving and car ran smoothly 3) Oil level Perfect I have also read while searching the forums that the gauge goes bad. I plan to hook up a mechanical gauge but any other suggestions are welcome. Image Unavailable, Please Login
first test with a mechanical gauge as you already mentioned if ok then change the sensor ( sending unit ). in most cases the sensor, not the gauge is not working right. but to make sure before you spend money for a new sensor you may test the - ( minus ) input from the sensor to the gauge at the gauge. I think the + ( plus ) at the gauge is ok, but also you may check.
You can disconnect the sender wire at the sending unit, if it is two wire, one does the little red light and the other works the gauge. The gauge should fall to zero or below, then ground that wire and the gauge should go to highest reading. Grounding the second wire makes the red light come on. If that is the case and it almost always is, put a sending unit on it. Very common.
Agreed with all the advice posted... had the same with the fuel gauge ..: first they changed the resistor and eventually the gauge failed... i heard they can be repaired but instead i choked $800 at ferrari to fix it ;( Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hey Fellas, Having an issue with this oil sender. I have bought two oil senders and neither is the correct size. (Rookie move) Any help would be appreciated. Pictures below. The part says fiat VEGLI and has the number 107-02 on it. I haven't been able to find a part number related to this. I located the fiat oil sender which looked exactly the same but I wasn't sure if that would work with gauge.
