    Hi Darryl,

    Nice car.

Where did you obtain the information that says only 12 Serie Speciale cars (whether tb only or tb and ts combined) were manufactured in 1992?

It is incorrect information. More than 20 Speciales are 1992 models, and at least more than 15 are tb cars.

Oh, and perhaps it would be interesting to show a picture of the production date plate as well.

My Speciale tb was produced April, 1992 and is #20.

You might want to refer to the 348 Registry thread in your search for cars 1-10.

Darryl, I have some info on 1-10 348SS cars. 92812 no. 1?, 93016 no.2, 93191 no.3, 93212 no. 4?, 93387 no. 5, 93431. The next 2 nos. are in between 5 and 9 not sure what sequence no. they are. 93431 & 93485 (93431 was '94 US challenge winner), 93523 no. 9. No. 10 is Mike's car. Maybe Mike V could post his serial no. for the tenth spot. I'm missing 1 no. of the ten. From what I can tell in my research all '92-'93 348 SS show build dates on their door plates as being manufactured in 1992. I owned no. 31 and its build date was June '92 but its MSO was dated April 27, 1993. I have a friend here in town that ownes no. 89 and his build date is Dec. 1992. I don't think the "build date" concept is very important to Ferrari. It is a US law only that car manufacturers have to show a build dates. As you probably already know these cars were built for the US market only although I do know there is one in Japan. Hope this helps, its not complete but should get a little closer to your answer. Regards vern

Was it just black paint versions of the 'speciale' tb and ts that received a 'chrome look' front grill? All the cars featured here have a black front grill. Did Ferrari convert the tb and ts to 'speciale series' specifications in North America or in Italy??
    Thanks

AFAIK all the SS cars came with the black grill and chrome horse. I remember reading some where back at the intro time of the car(Cavillino mag I think) that the black cars were to have a silver/aluminum look grill but my car was a black car and it had a black grill. So anyway as far as I know they all had black grills. They were built as regular production cars in Italy. They were not that much different from '94 GTB/GTS. The seats, frt spoiler lip, uncovered tail lights were the most noticable changes. Although the brochure on the SS was printed by FNA a folded page deal, kinda cool if your a document buff. Thanks for the details- most informative! I will try to find the picture I have of a black tb with the 'chrome look' grill. The picture was taken before delivery.
