    1993 MASERATI BARCHETTA 1 OF 17 MADE

A good friend of mine has asked me to find a new home for a very rare bird indeed, one of only 17 built Maserati Barchettas, manufactured 1993.

These were made for the racing series that Alessandro de Tomaso created in the early 1990’s. This one was sold new in Italy and never raced. Its owner had it homologated for the road in Germany with approval by the notoriously severe TUV (German government technical inspection bureau) making it one of the most extreme road cars ever as just a handful of the 17 were made road legal. This is chassis number THBCNU-LAD.

It then went to a Brit living on the island of Jersey off the coast of France who did some UK track days with it.

In 2008 it was bought by my friend a respected French collector who does not wish to be named here and has now decided to pare down his collection.

I rode in it with his very competent son and it was a thrill, it truly handles like a go kart and with only 775 kilos empty (1709 Pounds), 315hp, 290kph (180Mph) it is no surprise. An extraordinary power to weight ratio that puts to shame many so called supercars weighing two or three times as much.

These only very, very rarely ever come up on the market so this is not to be missed by purist driver fans of the Trident.

American prospects may like to know that there is only one of these in the USA which is never driven and almost never comes out of its remote garage in rural eastern US therefore this is the assurance to own something truly unique that is certain to be a star attraction at any track day; touring rally or concours.

This car is located in western France, serious enquiries only, POA, inspection by appointment. Full professional assistance offered from Aa to Zz for travel inspection arrangements, acquisition, shipping, follow up etc.

Please message me for more information.

Yes it is one of a handful of the seventeen made which were made street legal, as per German TUV rules, as tough as it gets.

wow! And street legal (at least "somewhere")! What a cool car. One would think a load of collectors (that actually drive) would want this in the stable...

I fully agree, however my prospects for now are all European and not via this ad. It would be great if a US afficionado bought it though:)

This car is much like the 288GTO, kind of a failed experiment in a way, but what a rare car!!

    GLWS!!
Fairly priced, IMO considering it's rarity and provenance.

    Not that I know anything...LOL!

not so much a failed experiment, but more of a typical DeTomaso build to cause controversy and stir the pot. Ferrari was extremely pissed off at its resemblance to the Mythos. It was a cheap build pretty much around existing parts from either Maserati or DeTomaso cars, didn’t have to meet regulations as track only and was F40 quick in acceleration with fantastic handling. But also typical DeTomaso not enough funds to fully exploit the cars.

Car is more than 25 years old. Shouldn’t be a problem bringing it into the US.

it’s both. Remember the description of Argentines: They are Italians, that speak Spanish, that think they’re British living in Paris!

These are fantastic cars, I was lucky to see one first hand in the UK many many years ago. I love the tartan seats.

This is not a question for Marc, but a general question for any that may know....

Could this be used legally on the road in the US? Even though it met the German standard, and is over 25 years old, I find it hard to believe it would be able to “Road Legal” in the US.

Even with that, I figure it could be driven and whoever had it in a law enforcement predicament, could ALWAYS work things out.

    Such a cool car.

Let’s just say that the 1 Barchetta in the US, has been known to be driven on the road.

That would be determined by your local jurisdiction.

If you out a Montana plate on this thing... Yes.

If you go to Texas you have to go through inspection... And if you don't have a horn it will fail.

That being said. TUV standards are far far far far far far more stringent than ANY state inspection in the us.

Now....it will have to pass your local emissions which might be the most difficult. But typically you just register your car outside of an emissions county.

I know this... If you wanted to... It would be very easy to get this road registered.

Now... It's not going to be CA compliant... Ever... But everyone knew that already.
