Good afternoon everybody. I have enjoyed my 1994 348 Spider for the past 9 years. However, I recently was out on a run and out of no where I started hearing a squealing sound that at first I thought might be a belt. It was loud and continual. It was at idle and when depressing & releasing the clutch. Inspection of belts found everything ok however noise appears to be in the rear of the car engine casing. I assume the clutch area. I drove the car home which by the way the sound was gone when cruising at normal speeds except again when utilizing the clutch. Shifted well drove well any ideas Thanks Alan

Haven't run into that myself, but if the noise only occurs when the clutch pedal is pushed in , I would be wondering if the throwout bearing needs to be thrown out.

+1. Even though it may be continously present, it may be related to the throw out bearing or one of the other bearings in the flywheel or cover.

That's where my first thought went, too. Just to verify -- it is a squeal, not a whine?

Edit -- I see it is continual. I should read more thoroughly :) Still, hopefully it's the T/O bearing, which is an easy and inexpensive (compared to a gearbox) fix.
