Looking at purchasing this car. Color is Sera Blue (I think that is the name) with Tan Connolly leather. 24,000 miles. Very clean owned by a collector. Just had engine out service (seals, belts, etc.) plus other odds and ends at $10k and some change. Ive heard that these manifolds are prone to crack. What else should I expect? Anything else to look for on these models. Thanks for any advice.

    First off, welcome!

Has the interior stickiness been addressed?

Is it the one out of Birmingham? Make sure they've put the rear wheels on the correct sides.

Front wheels are correct, rears are not.

Are you tall? You may need the Hill Engineering steering wheel spacer. Are you not tall? You may like the Hill Engineering Steering wheel spacer.

do the mousetrap seatbelts both work?

    HVAC work?

    other PPI pre-purchase insepction stuff?

Will it be your first one? that's a beautiful car.

    Thats the one.
Im 5-10, 162 lbs. (not tall)
seat belts have been replaced with 355 belts.
First one, do it yourselfer, have access to private lift.
Everything works, not sure about stickies, Ive seen that, what is involved in correcting? Also, how can you tell wheels are not on correctly, backwards stallion?
    Thanks for your help

The 355 seems more prone to cracked exhaust manifolds. My now EX 348 did have a couple cracks near the mounting plate on the 5-8 side which were found in a PPI when I sold it, so can happen but doesn't seem to be a plague on the 348.

If you pass on the car, I'd love to know what you found out. I'd love to have that one too as I'm looking for a spyder as well.

If you are a Diy'er, stickies are a fun home project with lots of info here and found in google search on how to correct. Couple of sponsors here do it as well.

As for the wheels, look at the fronts. See how the little recessed triangular area is behind the main spoke? On the rears that little triangular area is in front.

Thanks Meister, will do, I see what you're talking about on the wheels. That was my second guess after I started studying the photo.

I've had my TS for 4 or 5 months now. I'm 6'3, and needed the steering spacer badly. I'm also a big DIY guy, and i'm looking for lift access so i can do my major. so far, it's been incredibly rewarding to work on, as well as the people you meet. The forum is a wealth of knowledge. Check out my348.com as well.

Without more pictures we can only tell so much.

    Wheels are a cheap fix.

    Cracked headers not a problem.

Sticky repair fairly easy on a 348.

Recent major, nice plus, by who?

Don’t know the car or the price, but I Like.

Much less expensive to own that you think. Plus there's much u can do yourself on these that you cannot on a 355 or later model. Depending on price, go for it!

Connolly leather has a great aroma as well. When I was 10 my Dad bought a brand new Jag XKE and it had the Connolly leather. I can still smell it.

Great color combo. FYI, it’s a 348 Spider not Spyder. Just saying.

I seldom drive my 348. But as often as I can I spend a few minutes inside the car, enjoying the sights and the smell of the leather. That's a very special experience in and of itself: "What did you do today?" "Went out to the shop and smelled my 348. :)

The car is nice. The service was done a local non Ferrari shop but an import bmw type place. Not a huge deal any competent mechnaic can do it if you hit the key points.

I saw the records and not being a Ferrari place they mis-understood the issue or so it seems. They replaced the cam seals etc and belt (assuming that is the critical issue) but seemingly did not do the tensioner bearings or adjust valves. 23K miles on the clock. I looked at it too, last week.

Ugh... what to do now about this as a possible buy. Opinions anyone?

348 spider owner and just completed a major service. I will tell you it was a huge mistake not to replace the idlers and tensioners. There are a couple of other bearings that should be replaced while in the timing case. The water pump should have been replaced at the same time. Also while doing the service, the hoses should have been done. This is the problem with having the work done by an inexperienced shop, sure their price is lower but they only did a 1/2 assed job.

That said take into consideration the costs to replace these parts when making an offer. While these parts may not be an issue at the moment they soon will be, just check previous posts here on the pitfalls of not doing a complete belt service. While the parts won't break the bank the labor will be the big bite. Call around and get quotes for the non replaced parts and be prepared to get a serious shock. If you are a dyi guy call Daniel and get his pricing on the kits he has available to do the job correctly. I'm guessing the bmw guys used a cheapo aftermarket set of timing belts so spend a few more dollars and get genuine Ferrari belts, there is a big difference. Plan on doing it right and you won't be dissapointed.

    just sayin'

I passed on that car, I am a diy guy but no interest in buying one and needing to pull the motor and work on it just to get to drive it. Especially since I am in an apartment in NYC and wont have a place with a garage till next summer.
