Not too specifically, but an adhesive joint in a clutch disk assembly falling apart after ~30 years (if it's never been replaced) shouldn't be too shocking -- JMO.

Could be simple long term persistence of thermal expansion and contraction with entrapped moisture, if stored in unheated garage/or/outside freezing temps and moisture will work as a force to detach the facings...

In the end, nature always wins

No but I've never seen a puck style disc with organic friction material. That design is usually copper ceramic while organic is usually full faced.

Will be interesting to see the design of the replacement.

The replacement is full faced. It’s a Valeo disc

Sounds like your pressure plate or clutch fork pivot may have failed if the fork moves but won’t disengage, something’s broken inside. Since it grabs with the engine off, hydraulics are likely fine. Time to pull the trans.

On the removal: The trans can come out underneath, but it’s a nightmare on Diablos exhaust, subframes, and tight clearance make dropping it harder than yanking the engine. Most just pull the whole unit for sanity’s sake.

It seemed to me too like there was room from underneath but last thing I wanted to do is undo everything and get stuck. I pulled engine out already and found 2 of the friction plates on clutch got unglued and caused havoc. Right now I’m waiting for flywheel pressure plates on clutch assembly.

Oof, clutch plates coming apart is nasty good catch pulling the engine when you did. Hope the new parts arrive soon so you can get it all buttoned up properly.

You know, that does not look like the original Sachs friction plate, do you know who made the one in your picture?
