I am looking at a mint example of a RS America.

I have always liked the car and what it was designed for here in the US.

Anyone here have any knowledge or ownership experience that they could share on the car.

My opinion is it is classic Porsche Design, Lightwieght, air cooled, and very good on feedback.

THOUGH, I have never driven one and the above is what I have gathered over the years in information. NO powersteering might be so-so but would have to gather that from driving the car.

I was a Porsche sales rep in the era of the RS America. I really like this car compared to the regular 964. IMHO the lack of power steering was a big plus as it greatly improved steering feel during 'spirited' driving, plus it's one less thing to worry about maintaining now. The other big difference in this car was the removal of much of the sound proofing. The engine sound is more apparent (as is the road noise) which gave the driver more of a 'real' 911 experience. The difference in weight is not that great (Euro versions of the 964 RS were a lot lighter) compared to a 964. This is a car you can drive reasonably comfortably during the week and rip around the track on the weekend.

I sold these when they were new cars at the Porsche dealer. Delivered 4 of them in fact. All with just the LSD option.

Great cars....but.....they had 5 options you could order.......

    AC
    Radio
    Sunroof
    LSD
Color coded door pulls and seat belts (red, blue or black)

If you want a "real" RSA and the advantage of the weight loss of 220 or so pounds, you must get a car with only the LSD.....having all the other stuff (AC, sunroof and radio) makes the car simply a Carrera 2 with cloth seats, sound proofing, and the optional M30 sport suspension.

White with colored belts is the most popular color for resale........blue is the worst.

Have you been to RSAmerica.net yet ?

Yes, I have been visiting that site for some time now collectiog any and all DD.

The car in question is LSD with air. IMO one of the lightest and comforatble combos. Unless your a track machine...air is handy. I can easily forego the radio and sunroof.

...Air is also removable if need be.

I believe soundproofing was sparingly used in the RS compared to the C2....yes?

Correct......I made a typo.....C2's have soundproofing.....RS's do not......there is 10 pounds alone......problem is, the AC and all the associated parts are 100 pounds.

In my experience as a driver of these.....with the window down and the cloth seats which breath easier and therefor are cooler than the leather ones in a C2.....the RS is just fine in +30 celcius heat. But that is me and I am a masochist when it comes to cars......you may feel different.

BTW having no PS is wonderful........the car is really grippy.
