Hi, I've been having a flickering speedo for some time. Had a new speed sender unit fitted- done nothing! Had a new speedo fitted- done nothing! Yesterday had someone check wiring supposedly! Went to pick her up for the mechanic to say sorry don't know what it is and now all gauges/speedo/revometer doesn't work, HELP please! John.

Has anyone check the fuses? For a 348 it's a 10amp fuse, should be the same for the 355.

    And welcome to Ferrarichat.

If the fuses are fine, and the sender is new, and the speedometer is new, then the next area to examine would be the connectors/wiring.

    I hate wiring problems!

Double check the fuses. The vertical lift sensor behind front bumper can short out (a metal ball inside becomes dislodged) and cause gauges to fail..

Now that is weird. Can you tell us how the vertical lift sensor is connected to the gauge cluster?

Same fuse. If you keep popping your speedo fuse it's worth pulling front bumper and checking. Held in place with two screws. Pull it off and give it a shake. If it rattles it's shot. 550's suffered it too...

Thanks for the tip!!! I guess you could also just unplug the vertical sensor and if the fuse does not blow you know it is the sensor? Are dash/gauge lights on same fuse with the gauges?

Yes. It's a three pin plug on an ally sensor. You are spot on ... Pull the plug, if the fuse doesnt blow that's the culprit, but removing it and checking for the "death rattle" will also point to failure..

Hi, thanks for the info, do I have to take front bumper off or can I access another way? If I do take the bumper off whereabouts exactly is it? I'd like to give this a go myself if it's relatively easy! cheers John.

Yes, front bumper off, it's situated in the middle of the car, it'll be quite apparent once bumper is off. Before you do anything, did you find a blown fuse yet?

For sure a wiring problem. You will have to do some dective work on the wiring.

Two main things to check, Ground circuit for the dash, footwell fusebox and connections around that fusebox. I have had a few internal failures of the fusebox.

    Regards and good hunting.

Hi guys, quick update, found a ground wire that had come off that was behind a group of wires at the back of the dash, I re-connected it and got all my gauges back! Great! Still got the flickering speedo though- any ideas? John.

Hi, I mentioned in the initial post that I first fitted a new speedo sender then a new speedo. Mileage still works though! Speed mph flickers, John.

If all the wiring is in good shape, it could be your alternator is about ready to go out. I know it sounds odd but it is one of the symptoms of a dying voyage regulator. My 348 had the speedo and the tachometer start to act up a few months before my alternator bit the dust. Not that that is the for sure what is happening, but a possibility.

Thanks for the tip, I'd be a bit annoyed though cos I had a new one fitted last year! She's going in on Monday to a specialist so I'll pass the message on though- you never know! cheers John.

Picked car up today, apparently the speedo sensor was working perfect! And I replaced a faulty speedo with another faulty speedo- even though it was new! The mechanic owns a concourse 355 himself, he took his instrument pod off and plugged it into mine and hey presto it worked! Now I'm looking for somewhere in the UK that can check/repair my original speedo? Also as a point of interest if there was a fault somewhere else in the instrument pod could this show up as a flickering speedo? John.
