Just some questions to ask and this would be the right forum I think? I have a 1995 Red/black NSX that I will be selling and have talked to my other half an agreed that I should step up in the Ferrari World before we have kids ( so thatway I will have one while we have kids :). I am looking at a 1995 F355 Spider. Color Combo is green with tan leather. Also to mention the car has 14,250 miles, just had a new clutch put in and the 30k service. The salesman also said that they just put in the new leather in the car.
www.lamborghinidallas.com is where you can see the car

they are asking $70k for the car. The salesman said it just needs a good home and that it is ready to drive with no problems. So I went on Saturday and then again on Monday to look at the car. He was really pushing me on the green. As I looked the car over again I noticed that the car had rust by the inside of the door seal ( where the plastic foot sheild is on the side skirts) does that make sense :) ?
Anyway is that a unusual cheap price for the 355 convertable with just rescent services like that? The salesman said that they spent $12k their cost fixing the car. I guess what I am concerned about is if I buy this green car what is the resale of it 4-5 years from now. Would it be harder to sell this color when I want to get something else? I was also looking at a white one with tan leather and it looks really nice to.
    Thanks for any info!

I have seen this before, and have no explanation other than rain (Houston) may sit there in that little trough, plus it is not galvanized or anything.

Even for 70K they should think about fixing it. We are coming into the winter months, and prices aren't exactly gonna go up.

    I love that green color.

It's a door sill plate that is very common to get replaced. Carbon fiber ones are 500-700. The body panels are aluminum so they do not rust. I've seen some green ones sit for a long time. I would haggle hard on the 70K.

green will be harder to sell then red or yellow if that's your future plan, but white will be even harder to sell then green. dealers won't even order new cars in white without 50% down. good luck and wait for the first snow fall in the east and prices with it. bought my 355 in november of last year.

Green is not a popular color. Why would the interior need to be replaced? What portion was replaced?

Price is about "market" and you may be able to get them to come down more....

The door sills (black metal with the black rubber "ferrari" script inserts) are known to get rusty around the edges. They can be cleaned, prepped and repainted in place by a good body shop inexpensively.

They said that they change all the leather in their high dollar cars if they show any wear at all. It looks nicely done if I may say so. The car looks clean and I looked under the car and did not see any oil leaks. the salesman was nice but really tried to make me buy it ASAP... saying quates like " this ferrari will only last 10 days" Which it may sell in ten days but most likely not... I do not know how long I would keep the car honestly... i have never had a car longer than 3 years. But if green is a harder car to sell than maybe I should steer away from it and look for a different color.

    Buy a color YOU like!!!

The discount you get on an out of favor color will be the same for the next guy when you sell it.

The door sills commonly get surface rust...no biggie to replace or repair.

More important, how does it run? A major service doesn't necessarily replace bad valve guides or leaky headers.....

    Get a PPI if possible

    Ken,
if you will flip it in two or three years, get resale red. Read as many threads on 355 ownership you can...and get the car inspected by another Ferrari specialist...including a compression and leakdown test.

I've heard green is very tough on the resale value. Just something to think about. It makes sense.

There is a reason 99% of the 1995 F355 Spiders were NOT green!!!!!!

    Red, Black, Yellow.....can't go wrong!!!!!!!!!

What's odd is that everyone I talked to about a green 355, coupe "S" or Spider all say how rare it is and how cool it is in a field of typical red cars (usually at shows or meets). But no one has ever said "That's the color I would get." So, when it comes to putting your money where ur mouth is, ppl tend to gravitate back to their comfort level. Not to say green is bad, but it's harder to find that one guy who thinks it is the cat's teets.

Get out are you serious. No doubt those colors are plentiful, much like "white" on a Ford Crown Victoria - but there are some other beautiful colors like Argento Silver, TDF blue, Grigio Titanium and Azure to name a few. I have seen folks go out of their way to find unique colors on this forum. I'll give you the fact that "green" is green but 99% dosen't cover the folks out there that want a conservative flavor - I just happen to be one of 'em and didn't want red or yellow and felt black muted the lines of the car. There are off colors but if you buy it for $5k under market you sell for $5k under market - net effect ...zip.

Get what you want, friend - either way you'll love it!

I can only partially agree with this. I, for example, have been scouring the country for a white 355 GTB. Granted, I plan on paying less than I would for a red one but it is what I like. I perfer the "rarity" of it. I think all fcars, especially the 355s look beautiful in white. To each his own! Buy the Ferrari you have always dreamed about!

That car is currently on ebay:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=002&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=120051737330&rd=1,1

With all the services being done, it sounds like a good deal (if you could get it for $65k). Seems like I have been noticing prices for the 355 in the 80k to 100k range with the cheap ones in the 70-80k range needing service or having higher mileage.

To the person who checked it out in Houston--How was the paint, did you drive it, did it have books and tools? Lastly, did they seem like they would take less?

Like others have said - have them fix/clean up the rust issue, notice the leather behind the drivers seat is worn bad also. Why is there no mention of the new leather on the description?? When was the last major done?? If the major is somewhat fresh and they take care of the little things--I would say it is priced fair..BUT if you are only going to keep it a few years and sell it and your worried now about resale value---steer clear of the GREEN!!!

The salesman said that they spent $12k their cost on ( clutch, 30k service, leather) They said that the car needs nothing except a home. I told my wife how nice this website is and how helpful. I honestly think I will steer clear of this green F355. Is there a dealership in the country where you can totally trust them? If you where to buy a F355 where would be the place to go? Also how much does it cost to rent a ferrari specialist to check out a car? :)
    Thanks Guys

The relatively low price is purely based on the color. That car has been for sale for quite a long time. I think the salesman was pushing because he finally has someone seriously interested int he car (you). Green will sell for less when you go to sell, and it will take a long time to find the right buyer. but if you want a good car for a fair entry price I say go for it, and negotiate.

I think this is a very pretty car. If I were looking for a 355 spider, I don't think the green would stop me as long as the vehicle was in good repair. I think it's a classy color combo (very British!) and, with a challenge grille, would look great. If it's had all the services they claim, valve guides have been addressed as well as the manifold issue and you can eek out another $5k, it's a very good buy IMO.

    Good luck.

tHESE DAYS YOU CAN'T trust ANYPLACE 100%, but Ferrari dealers have a reputation to stand up to. I would be much more comfortable buying from a real Fcar dealer than just an exotic dealer or private party. Both my Fcars I purchased where from authorized dealers and they treated me very well and took care of any little problems that arose.
Thanks - Sportauto and Lake Forest Sports Cars
