Hi guys, I had my alternator re-furbed about a year ago. The last few weeks the light has started to flicker irregularly, though I have noticed it doesn't start doing it until it's a bit warm- say 3 or 4 miles of driving- any ideas? thanks John.

Bad alternator. I know it seems unlikely but to be sure, stick a voltmeter in the cigarette lighter. This way you will have a a gauge you can look at while your driving and see exactly whats happening.

Sounds like it needs to be fixed again. Make sure that it has a good ground. There was a ground cable update for this alternator. Do a search on F-Chat, and you will find many threads pertaining to this problem. The quality of the parts that the rebuilder used may be part of the problem.

When I had my 355 I had the same issue. I rebuilt it once then a year later same problem.
I rebuilt it again then same problem later.

So in the end I put a brand new one in and never had an issue since. I also put a heat shield over it.

So in summary by the time you spend 'x' dollars taking it out and rebuilding it may as well put a brand new one in and this should last you a very long time.
