Hi all, I’ve done some searches, but have come back mostly empty. My car (1995 456 GT) has an odd idle issue where the idle will stay at ~1,500 to ~1,700 RPM (regardless of what if the clutch pedal is released or not) only while it's moving (i.e. coming to a stop light or parking the car) and won’t come down to the usual ~1,000 RPM until a couple of seconds after the car is fully stopped. It’s annoying to say the least. The car has new intake gaskets but has had this issue since before the intake gaskets... changing the gaskets improved the idle problem (prior, RPMs would hover ~2,000 RPM before coming down), but did not go away. I’ve done multiple ECU resets and relearn cycles, but the issue does not improve. Reading here, I’ve been thinking to perhaps clean the idle control valves to see if things improve. Any other suggestions? Aside from this idle issue, the car runs beautifully. Thanks in advance for any suggestions! Ruben
I experienced a somewhat similar issue with my 456 right before one of the temperature sensors went south. That is, for a few days before the Check Engine light illuminated and an OBDII scan reported a faulty temp sensor, the idle was surprisingly higher than normal - but mostly until the engine reached full operating temperature. Have you tried pulling the codes (I am aware 1995 models don't have OBDII) and see if anything pops up?
Thanks for the suggestion. Yep, no codes, at least as tested with Leonardo. No warning lights on dash. The idle issue is also regardless of temp. Ruben
Dave I think you’re absolutely right. Since it was something easy, I tried cleaning out the idle control valves as outlined here (same part # as the 348): https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/idle-control-valve-fix-sort-of.376281/ The idle control valves had a bunch of crud from 23 years of driving and cleaned up beautifully with MAF cleaner. Unfortunately, there was no change in the idle. So off to the shop to do a more thorough diagnostic and fix. Thanks for the ideas... I’ll chime in after, once resolved, so that others may benefit. Cheers, Ruben
Rubin - cool. I hope you are enjoying Wolf's old 550. I had the privilege and pleasure to drive it - amazing car. I love it
Hey Dave - yep, loving the 550! I’ve driven several 550s and 575s and can’t figure out what makes this 550 such a torque monster - it’s incredible and I feel very fortunate to enjoy it! 126805 is a very special car indeed... Ruben
I had this issue with my GT. After leaving the battery off for the whole night and few long drives she ran at normal idle again.
