I have a 95 355 that was sitting for about 18 months. The engine was out of the car so the rear brake lines were open. Everything is back and running perfect except the brakes. The pedal is as hard as a rock and when I try to bleed the rear brakes, nothing happens. No air no fluid, no pedal budges. Nothing. I have the key on the open position and still nothing. When I bleed the brakes lines from the master cylinder actually the ABS unit under the master cylinder(I see three lines-my guess 2 for the front and one line going to the rear) the two lines in the front bleed fine and pedal goes to floor--but nothing out of the middle line. No fluid, no air, no pedal to the floor. Is the abs somehow frozen and not allowing the rear breaks any fluid. Is there a procedure to bleed these breaks or I pray not the abs unit has gone bad. Everything was working fine before the motor came out.

It never a good thing to leave brake lines uncapped......it sounds like the rubber lines swelled up..... replace the lines and bleed as normal.

Though also keep an eye on the calipers for leaks....you may just want to replace all four lines and rebuild your calipers for thoroughness.....

Does your ABS hydraulic pump work for some time after IGN is switched on (after IGN was off for some hours) ? If it does not and you have a hard pedal than there is no pressure in your high pressure accumulator (the black metal 'bubble' in the trunk, the driver side) . Missing pressure there means that you completely loose the brake on the rear axle (Teves MKII ABS system).
Check the fuse, connectors and the relais for the ABS system. If this parts are all ok your pressure switch which is located at the hydraulic pump may be defective.

    Regards,

    Bruno

Bruno thans for the reply. When I turn key on I do hear something happening at abs unit., Are you supposed to feel anything at the high pressure accumulater? Is there any way to bypass this? I havent driven the car in a year and a half and the only thing stopping me is this brake problem. So are you telling me this high pressure accumulator is stopping me from getting a brake pedal? Is there a way to check this unit?

2.1 failurecode is the main valve which is located in your main hydraulik unit. Please check if the connector comming from the ABS ECU is connected to your master cylinder. Maybe it is corroded. But even if this valve is not working you should not have a rock solid pedal. Only ABS is not working with this condition.
You wrote that after IGN on you can hear something from you ABS system. You should hear the pump running. Does it stop after a while (< 2 minutes) ? What is about your Brake warning lamp (not the ABS waring lamp). Is it off after the pump stopped to work ?
If the pump stops after a while and the brake warning lamp is off then there is pressure in your accumulator and your pedal should feel normal. If it does not i'm afraid you have a problem with your main hydraulik unit - assuming that the rear brake pressure delay valve and the pressure limiter for the rear axle are working correctly.

    Regards,

    Bruno

Thanks Bruno for your help. All my brake lights are on and do not turn off--ABS, Park, and Brake light. I hear a quick swishing or whirring for like 5 seconds when I first turn the key--so I dont know if the pump is actually working. I dont feel any movement coming from the pump either when I touch it. All 4 relays click-so maybe they are working? The car was sitting for about 18 months.

Brake warning light on, no running pump motor and hard pedal really points to "no pressure" in the high pressure accumulator.
Did you check the following things:

    - brake fluid level
    - the 30A fuse for the hydraulik pump. If the pump relais is clicking after ign on but pump not running then the fuse seems to be blown.
