Indeed a saw the model stand they had, I was eyeing off a few 355 models to add to my collection but I resisted the urge! Thankfully I have the real deal to enjoy.
Darren, Tubi Evolution is still fitted, it's fine for long drives. My only qualm was with city/traffic on part throttle it had a drone at 3-4000 rpm. I have learnt to drive around it and it's ok. The sound it makes on bypass is worth it. I will see how the capristo bypass valve and the Tubi headers effect the sound once installed. For now I'm keeping the Tubi Evo. My friend ordered a Tubi evolution and we specified it as a level 1 and level 3 on bypass upon ordering. Seeing as I didn't order mine new I can't tell what sound level mine is before bypass. It will be Interesting to see if there is a difference.
Thanks Elliot. I have a tubi (old style with one outlet each side) with hyper flow cats. It sounds really nice, but is a bit loud on long drives. I was thinking of changing back to an oem muffler or a capristo muffler level 1. I haven't got an oem muffler, so I will have to get one, but they are becoming rear and expensive. Plus, going back to stock might be a bit of shock after living with the tubi. I wonder if the capristo will be the best option for me. Do you know if the capristo level 1 muffler drones on long trips? BTW, I have capristo bypass valve, I got it years ago, much better than stock. The only problem I had was the diaphragm failed, so they sent me two new ones with an aluminium heat shield cup. No problems since.
I have a lot of experience with the older style Tubi exhaust. I dislike it. I would prefer stock over it. The sound doesn't get louder on the bypass as the outlets aren't seperate. So I find the idle loud and the top end not much louder. With the evolution the bypass changeover is unmistakable and really screams up top, whilst being quieter before hand unlike the old Tubi style. Haven't had any experience with the capristo level 1 but I'd say it would be a better bet than the old Tubi style. Tubi only released the evolution to copy Capristo's design. Even the oem muffler has seperate outlets for the bypass. So I'd swap your Tubi for a Cappy or return to stock.
Thanks Elliot! I think I will start looking into a cappy or putting an oem muffler back on. I appreciate your feedback and quick replys!
I think going back to an oem muffler will be a huge disappointment. I just fitted my car with a Capristo 2/3 and I can't imagine going back to stock. The car is quite loud when the bypass is open but you kind of learn to work around it if you're trying to be quiet. Get the Capristo and don't look back
Can someone please clarify, capristo muffler to replace oem one, is specified as level 1, 2 or 3. Level 1 being the lowest sound output, 2 being more and 3 even more. When the bypass opens, the sound on all three levels are the same. is this correct? I have the old style tubi (single outlet each side), would this be equivalent to the Level 1 cappy? Even though the old style tubi doesn't have a separate path for the bypass, with hyperflow cats, this muffler is still pretty loud and still has quite a scream at high revs.
I've looked into this before I bought mine and I believe 2 is the loudest but don't recall. However, I think you are correct that once the bypass is opened they all sound the same. My Capristo 2/3 isn't overly loud at idle so honestly I wouldn't put too much thought into which one you get since once the bypass opens up you'll definitely hear it. I also have a Fabspeed y pipe which doesn't have cats so that makes quite a difference in loudness.
I sent out a bunch of parts for plating. I removed the exhaust hangers, every accessible bracket, the bonnet latch, airbox fasteners, air box mounts and the air pipe bolts. Parts back from plating, very happy with the results. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Parts reinstalled. Fitted the Capristo bypass valve, but ran out of time to reconfigure solenoid. Engine bay looking very tidy now. Love your work Elliot. The new solenoid must be fitted so that the capristo bypass valve works properly as it is opposite to the oem one.
Thanks Darren, I understand the solenoid is required to close the valve as the default is open. I will get to that before the next drive. My valve didn't even come with any instructions but my mate Andy sorted me out and sent me his instructions.
New radiator fans arrived. Took awhile, I had to borrow a friends fan to drive the car around. Interesting to note that the 95 model and the 96 onwards have slightly modified fans. The center spline that stripped out on my original fan as been lengthened and the fan has more material around it to strengthen it. The mounts are also different. Image Unavailable, Please Login
No matching luggage for this car, it wasn't optioned with it on purchase. Not too fussed about it. If it had been optioned and was missing id like to correct that but at this stage haven't looked to for any luggage.
Elliot what was the fan number on the box? Did you buy the open bearing fan( or something like that) or the sealed?
Spal 30102113. This is the oem replacement with correct wiring harness. This is the unsealed motor for 'race applications'. I opted for this one as the flow rate is very high, and the original fan was on the car and the motor still works after 21 years and 50,000 Kms. If I get half that life out of a new fan I'd be happy. The fan is never really on for extended periods of time and cycles on and off. Not worried about the motor going. I only had to swap it out due to the fan blade center stripping out.
Same with me, no luggage with mine either. Don't plan on touring interstate but only nice to have come Concorso time.
