Today is a great day! DHL truck dropping off a delivery from Maranello, Italy. My Tubi headers have arrived! I arranged a bulk purchase and the crate contains two sets of headers and a Tubi Evolution exhaust. Cant wait to fit them now. N.B even the DHL truck says it will have 'more power' Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here you go I filmed this yesterday. Awesome day out with my buddies 360 CS. http://youtu.be/NEGVhc1caZM And this one: http://youtu.be/dRuwppEOPZg This is Tubi evolution exhaust, OEM Catalyst, OEM headers and Capristo Bypass. The sound is EPIC!
This is my view too Dave. I was only ever going to opt for these. Now I have seen them with my own eyes I can tell they are worth every cent. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Took some decent shots of the engine bay. I love the 95 2.7 cars as you can see more of the engine details and it isn't hidden like the 5.2 cars. The plating of the components really makes a difference too. Here are some side by side shots of a brand new set of OEM ANSA 5.2 headers and the Tubi 2.7 thermal insulated headers. The exhaust ports are much smoother on the Tubi and they weight significantly less. I will have to weigh them to confirm the difference, id say 15-20% lighter. The aircraft grade thermal insulation looks amazing and should keep the engine bay temps lower. One engine bay component that was letting it down now was the oil vapour pipes on the oil filter housing. They are nylon braided over a rubber and steel pipe, very difficult to source and NLA from Ferrari. After some investigation I found a perfect match for it with a local hose supplier. Size is AN 8. Looks great now. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks Dave, just clocked on about 32500 miles. Driven as much as possible, whilst being looked after accordingly.
Damn! Stop posting the Tubi headers.....My bank account is about to take a dent if you keep that up And I have 3 355's - so it would be a BIG dent
I love all the attention to detail mate. Whenever you're ready I will send my car to you with a blank cheque.
Great. I bought a 1997 GTS two years ago and the price has gone up > 2,5 times since then. That easily covers the service costs I have had so far. It's an investment and fun at the same time. Who can complain about that.
Thanks Robb, likewise. I have stripped the car ready for Tubi header installation. I had to order a few more washers, and 2 exhaust gaskets from Ricambi that I missed to make all the hardware new again and get a good seal with all the exhaust components. Every gasket and donut ring is being replaced. I treated the exhaust springs and flanges to a de rusting and replaced all the bolts, nuts, sleeves and washers. While the car is apart I will refinish the fender liners and paint the air pump rail. The Y pipe got some rust removal and is now polished up, like I treated the OEM catalysts. Here are some pictures. The headers are ready for removal, I will document the process I use, as searching on here there are a lot of differing opinions on removal whilst the engine is in the car. You will love the tubi headers i know i do. Now all you need is the capristo twin valve and the groupe intake.
Yes I'm happy to be fitting what I think is the best header option available on the car. No more worries about the OEM headers. I have a Tubi Evolution which sounds sensational no plans on changing it out for a Capristo at this stage. I might at some stage get Tubi catalytic converters that way I have the full complement of Tubi in the exhaust department bar my Capristo bypass valve.
Elliott, Do you ever plan to get your car classiche certified? I am guessing they will not approve of our header and exhaust improvements... Maybe if we bring the old parts in a box they can shoot photos of the extra stuff... Otherwise, it may be some labor to return it to the original condition for the certification. But with some parts unobtainium like your hoses, I wonder what they allow... Robb
Robb our cars are 21 years old so I think they are eligible for classiche certification. One day I would probably want to have it classiched, but in the mean time prefer the rattle free capristo bypass, Tubi exhaust sound and no fear of melted headers. I have all the OEM parts still and I can reinstall when the time comes. But in all honesty they should pass the car as is on merit alone. Not too fussed about 100% originality when the after market options are a better bet compared to OEM. One thing I like about Tubi parts is they are made in Italy and in Maranello if there were any parts the factory would be ok with it would be the Tubi components. The only parts at the moment that aren't OEM are the headers, HE exhaust clamps, bypass valve, Tubi air filters, exhaust, Scuderia rampante hoses, and the oil vapor hoses. I doubt many of the Dino's that are classiched have original floor mats, vinyl seats etc they have all had some form of work.
I mean imagine they knock you back for the HVAC overlay that StickyRX makes - I much prefer that over the bubbled up mess my original one had!
Awesome work! I may have missed it, but did you get a good deal on the Tubi headers? It also sounds like a "group buy" could offer better pricing for those who may be interested? Look forward to your head installation write-up.
Yes, I arranged for 2 sets of headers and a Tubi Evolution for 2 friends and my own headers. We got a significant discount via best exhaust. Only catch is the shipment has to be delivered in the one crate to a single destination so I had to post out one set of headers to another state. But if you get a group of buyers together who want the same brand item, Mike can do a lot better than the quoted $7200 for the Tubi headers. The lead time was about 6 weeks.
Some updates: freshly coated the air injection rail, rear fender liners and used picklers paste on the Y pipe flange ends to remove the discoloration of the metal. Dangerous stuff but it does work, I forgot the after picture, it looks like a new item now. I once saw someone on Fchat wipe something on their headers and they came very clean easily. I cant seem to find it again. What did you use to clean the y pipe, the picklers paste?.
