Drock, the headers were replaced prior with new factory ones. I was tempted by the Tubi headers but I left it a bit late and the engine went back in before I pulled the trigger. My friends 355 F1 GTS had blown headers and I know what it sounds likes and what the tell tale signs are in the engine bay. We did a smoke test and they are fine. I am however considering removing and rebuilding them, or just getting the Tubis and being done with it. I do like originality though and may go the OEM rebuild route. Will keep this thread updated with what happens regarding the headers.

Lots to clean and tidy up in here. Ready to get my hands dirty. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I must admit I was a bit daunted by the task of cleaning this mess up! The engine was particularly dirty and I spent many hours carefully cleaning the engine and removing all the CV grease that was thrown out from the torn inner CV boots and general road grime. In the last pic you can see the A/C compressor was leaking at the seals and making a mess. It was removed and sent out for a rebuild. More parts removed. Gearbox mounts looked ok, but engine mounts were cracked. Both were replaced with new. Expansion tank removed for refinish and new sticker, engine heat-shields removed for clean up and refinish in wrinkle black. Took the opportunity to get the plenum covers off and prepare them for refinishing of the silver stripes, along with the power steering reservoir cover. The CV heat shields were damaged and requiring repair and repaint. I purchased a fiberglass repair kit to patch them up and coated them with VHT high temp paint. I was very happy with how they turned out as they must be made of some super special fiberglass to cost 130 pounds each! Here are the refinished plenum covers and coolant tank cover. I really liked how they came out! I used a small foam brush and applied the VHT high temp paint with light brush strokes. Also the air box heat shields re painted. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Very nice mate! Can you please give me/get me the part number off the top of your a/c compressor please.
Thanks, did you mean plenum covers? I used VHT engine enamel and sprayed it into a bowl, then took one of my kids foam painting dabbers on a stick in the rectangle shape. I then dipped it in paint and carefully applied the paint along the strips. It took two coats to get it nice and even. I cleaned up the edges with a razor blade to remove any excess paint. The black was left as original and given a nice sheen with WD40 and a wipe down. It sets off the engine bay now. More pics to come.
wow! the intake plenums look amazing. the silver strips on mine are almost completely worn off. did you strip the existing silver paint before? or just applied new paint on top ?
In progress valve covers: -Strip all the paint off (wasn't hard the job was almost completed before staring). -Sand for good key -Prime with VHT metal etch primer -Sand cover plates to remove primer off raised lettering to aid in removal of red paint later -Paint with VHT wrinkle red and set off wrinkle process with heat gun Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

I spent many hours cleaning the bell housing, gearbox, and engine block. Using multiple brushes, degreaser, allushine and a drill with wire polisher to get all surfaces as clean as possible. Treated everything with WD40 afterwards and wiped down. This was a huge improvement on what I started with, and I felt the effort spent here was well worth it. I removed the fuel tank heat shield, masked up it up and gave it a coating of VHT high temp engine enamel. Came up really nice, and although you can't see it much it felt good getting that detail done. Painted exhaust heat-shield this was refinished previously it seems but was too glossy. I used VHT manifold paint to withstand the high temperatures this is exposed to. Stripped the oil tank and refinished in wrinkle black and the axle heat shields mounted up and looking great. Although the car was running fine my mechanic thought it prudent to remove the injectors and get them cleaned and flow tested just to be safe. In his experience alot of F355's suffer flow problems that can caused wear in the liners. I also took the a/c compressor for a rebuild as it was leaking and throwing grease at the seals. Cleaned up the alternator while it was out too. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
