Looks to be a very involved process and when my engine was out I inspected them and no leaks were present so it remained. As Dave said don’t go looking for trouble.

Received my refinished parts from Sticky RX, I had spare vents and door handles to send off so I wasn't without a functioning car whilst I waited for them to be completed. Happy with the end result and they looks great fitted to the car. I will get a few more parts refinished in time, mainly ashtray, gear shift surround and HVAC panel so it all matches. The interior is becoming an increasingly nice place to be and its almost fully sorted.

Thank you for your support, Elliott :)

With all the other items you are replacing, I'm hoping you hold on to those old parts. Never know when one will be needed to use as a pattern to reproduce a NLA part ;)

Removed my original gear shift console surround that I had previously refinished as I had sourced a brand new RHD surround with factory coating.

Over time these plastic surrounds not only go sticky but they warp due to the pressure of the console mounting and heat.

My original part had a slight upturn and increased the gapping between it and the HVAC module. So rather than send out an old part to get recoated I opted for the locally sourced new part, and will wait till it inevitably goes sticky and have it refinished.

During this time I fitted Sticky RX’s gen 2 overlay which more closely mirrors the OEM soft touch and Sticky RX coating. This is my 3rd overlay not including OEM and finally it looks just right.

All I need now is to have the ash tray refinished to match the rest.

Elliot, did you realise that you don't need to take the ball off the gearstick to replace the surround? :p

Looks good, Elliott. The picture is hard to see, but do you have a hair line crack in your fan speed dial? Note - we repair those often. And, yep - we replace shifter trims with new very often due to them either being very broken (which can be avoided by replacing the think spacer / gasket underneath) or warped like yours.

EDIT - I should also mention that our overlays are made to match our coatings, not the factory coatings. However, our coating was matched to the factory...

But, we are seeing new parts come with varying different finishes. New 355 OEM ashtrays have a very different lid finish vs the housing. The gate trim is pretty close to the old finish or the finish on new model parts.

Which exact silver paint did you use for the plenums Elliot??

Also which silver for the boot covers, and finally which black if any for the subframe?

    Thanks Elliot

Both the plenum and the cv boot covers were done in VHT engine enamel - universal silver color.

I have not painted the subframe at all. Reason being it doesn’t really need it. When I do need to do it I’d have to research how to get the finish they did.

It’s not a straight black it’s almost a brown/black and the subframe is undercoated in red too. Not sure what coating and process was used but every painted/coated subframe I have seen refinished is nice looking but a straight flat black and not close to OEM.

Take the extra step and change them. My car has half the miles and the bearing was dry and brittle. Could result in significant damage to gears. My mechanic did it so I can’t tell you how much more involved was the process, but for someone mechanically inclined it shouldn’t be too difficult (famous last words).

Yes, it's factory. I believe all 95's are red.

Fitted a new ashtray and mirror switch bezel today. Now I have a spare set of every plastic sticky item. So although this OEM part will get sticky I can fit a refinished part whilst I wait for this to be refinished without having a car missing it’s trim. Not a big fan of downtime!

The new peices are not warped as well which means the fitment is much tighter. Really happy with my interior now.

What I’m not sure about is the suspension switch. I have heard 95’s are default in firm (sport setting) and the 5.2 cars are default soft (comfort) setting and switchable to the firmer setting.

My car feels like the default is soft and with the switch on (light illuminated on dash) is the firmer setting. Mine is a July 95 build so not sure if there were changes mid way in line with other changes like the single fuel filter vs the dual setup of the very early 94-95 cars.

John K and I discussed this in detail within another thread a while back but I doubt I would find it. Yes, your understanding is correct - this image is from the 95 owner's manual - the 98 does not have the same image and I can confirm the switch needs to set pulled toward the drive to be in sport mode on my 98.

There are 3 different sport switches:

The early 95's have a shock icon without the spring or letter "S"

The next are like yours - they have the coil and letter "S"

The third (I think only F1's) say "SPORT"

Strange... The handbook which came with my Australian '98 spider shows the switch positions as being identical to your first image (1 = sport, 2 = comfort). However, the handbook text says that the light comes on in comfort mode.... When I pull the switch aft on my car, the light does indeed come on and the car feels a little looser.

Trying not to hijack the thread, but...
Since the switches and suspension units have the same part numbers on all cars, the varying operation must be due to wiring changes... either on the switch backplug or on the passenger footwell relay panel plugs. I don't have a pinout for the centre console suspension switch plug, but my car's relay panel wiring (for the suspension system) matches the "Euro-centric" workshop manual wiring diagrams. Perhaps my car is the "norm", Dave ;)

Ian - there are 4 part numbers for shock switches:
