The sun was out for its first drive since the service. It was great to be back behind the wheel after such extensive work and effort. There are still a few items to document with more to come that has not been completed yet. The emissions sticker on my right hand side panel was badly weathered. I found Vas via Fchat who produces reproduction stickers. He was kind enough to alter the label to suit the our emission stickers and he was able to produce an identically numbered replacement. Another little detail taken care of. Hi mate, Thanks for the a/c part number, appreciate it. In regards to the fuel injectors. That's what we do. We flow test them before hand to check them and their spray pattern. We then rebuild them like you did and re-test them to ensure they are spot on. Then we pass on the test results to the customer...............along with the bill.
How many hours do you think you have spent on this work mate? From cleaning to the engine out and repairs? Can I truck my 348 to you to do the same thing for me?
Now that the mechanicals and interior were sorted it was time to focus on a few external blemishes: -Front fog lights were badly sandblasted (from highway driving) and pitted. With replacement units running around $900 dollars, I resisted the urge to buy new and attempted to polish them up. -Clear front lenses were cracked, new replacement items were purchased from Eurospares. -Front grill was removed and polished with metal polish, this helped however the metal was pitted and faded so, it is now at the anodiser getting refinished. - Front cavallino was replaced for new - Front bar was heavily stone chipped and required a re paint. It will be at an excellent paint shop this week, at this time the Hill Engineering skid plates will be fitted. Progress photos to come... Exactly! I asked to get them tested and the vendor said they would but it would double the cost, so I did not bother.
Ok, rather odd they said that. Doesn't take long to set em up and test them. Either way, all good. Thanks for the reply.
Pap it would be in the 100's of hours. Just driving to and from and picking up parts, researching, buying online and driving the car to different places all adds up. Lucky its a labour of love. If I could make a living out of it one day I would! I doubt there would be many people willing to pay for this sort of work. A good friend of mine just purchased a 1998 Berlinetta manual so I have been busy working on that too when I get a chance!
Front cavallino change, and cleaned up grill. It is now in for anodising and I'm awaiting its return. Most people powdercoat the grill, however factory finish is anodised so thats what I went with. When removing the front fog lights I found what could be the culprit of my battery drain, an old alarm siren. I have removed it and traced back to an alarm unit sitting under the dash. Seeing as I don't have any fob to disarm its wired in and not active. I know its still connected because I cut the siren and the car would not start! So I have rewired it up and it sits in the passenger foot well until I can get it removed entirely. I will order a replacement gravel guard as the original was hacked to get the alarm siren mounted. The under pan guards were taken off and will be repainted. Three tabs broken that I will get attended to by my paint guy when the bar gets painted. Bringing the fog lights back to life was a test of patience! Started off with hand sanding them, but that was a waste of time. Purchased an orbital sander to remove heavy pitting, then used a wet sanding in various grades up to 2000 and finished it off with a glass polishing kit from eBay to produce a close to new finish. How did you go with the light polishing?? I also did the same on the berlinetta. Repainted front bar, hill plates etc. At least its all nice and cheap... ha ha!! In the end,in pursuit of mint looking lights i found the clear protective film from my local motorcycle shop, cut to size looks mint. No sandblasted look anymore plus a protective layer!
Recently hit a mileage milestone. I drive it as often as I can, like they were intended. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
