Hello Ferrari enthusiasts Let me first introduce myself, my name is Yoeri and I am a 28 year old guy living in Belgium (Europe). I've always loved fast & beautiful cars, my previous which was also my daily was a 2009 BMW E90 (Sedan) M3, which I absolutely loved. But due to new regulations in our country I've decided to part with it and bought a new Porsche Cayenne Diesel. But I still needed my hobby to exist and was looking for a new car, preferably near oldtimer status, which led me to 964/993 Porsches, but I never seemed to find a correct one, and the good ones had prices almost reaching 70.000 Euro. That I couldn't spend on a Porsche, and still have nothing special in my eyes... On a particular day I was searching randomly and saw a F355 for sale, it immediately caught my attention because as a kid I had a poster of a F355 on my room But Ferrari never came to mind as affordable, nor in ownership of a 28 year old... So I started reading about it and it immediately came clear to me that not buying it, but maintaining it would be most reckoned with. Long story short, in October I found a nice F355 Spider in The Netherlands with 78.000 kilometres, always properly maintained and driven with, only the last 3 years it had only driven 4.000km and needed a timing belt service. So I bought it, and immediately let the dealership (specialised in classic cars) change the timing belt. They also heard that a small part "druklager" (Thrust bearing?) of the clutch was rattling, so that was also replaced together with the clutch plates. I have only driven it about 300km so far, but always with a great smile and I'm eager to further discovering this car. Below are some pictures of it, the next post I will dedicate to a small problem that I'm experiencing now Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice! I was about your age when I got mine, 8 years later still love it! Congratulations Yoeri, it's beautiful.
Congrats on a beautiful 355. I love the 911/964 and am actively looking for one but I may just buy another 355 or a testarossa because of the insane prices of 80's and 90's Porsches.
Thanks all Now I'm experiencing a little "Suspension Malfunction" problem, sadly I've only driven 400km, but I am openminded to a Ferrari having his "quirks" I've searched alot on this forum and it has provided me with enough information to get started on my own, being this the first time I have ever worked on my own cars, I must say it feels satisfying If only the parts would be cheap and at hands I checked all actuators, first at the back because they were the easiest, then at front removing the carpet of the trunk. Luckily/sadly I found out that the front passenger side actuator was cracked, and also took out the shock gear or visa versa... Now I have ordered four new shock gears @ Hill Engineering (in case the other follow...), and I am looking for a used actuator on Ebay. I have read about captainzenc, but for one actuator it would be almost as expensive as buying a used one (because of shipping costs), will make use of his services if I need two new ones or so (please no...). But now I am having trouble removing the broken shock gear, the pin doesn't want to come out, does anyone have some tips? And another question, I have all four actuators released from the shocks, is it a good/bad idea to drive the car without the actuators, leaving the shocks with no controls? Also, the shock with the cracked gear, I have no idea to which setting this shock responds because now you can rotate the gear 360°... What to do? Hi yoeri, where there gear is broken you have to put that in the middle of the notch further down. no problem to drive without the actuator. I can fix the broken actuator for you or send new internal aluminium parts to you by mail. send me a pm or mail at kroijmans at hotmail dot com
Hi Jochem, Thanks for the proposition, I will send you an e-mail for fixing the actuator Replacing the top shock gear (not the actuator) does not affect the starting positions of the shaft? In other words, the shock ECU will recalibrate all shocks himself, so that they all have the same values yes?
In other news... I am thinking of replacing the OEM headers before they fail, since it's not a question 'if' but rather 'when'... Now I have contacted Fabspeed and I have a rather good feeling about them, taken into account that there are some posts about being manufactured in Taiwan. Now I couldn't care less about where it is manufactured, as long as the R&D stands out as well as their customer service (iPhone is also designed in USA and manufactured in China, amongst millions of other things). But the other option was recondition the oem headers by quicksilver or an other company. Downside of that one is the turnaround time (it's driving season), and spending money on something that is flawed from the beginning (although the flaws may be 99% gone after reconditioning). But has anyone here got Fabspeed headers which they are very satisfied with, or any downsides to them?
Haha Seems nice to drive around there Any opinions about Fabspeed headers/reconditioned headers anyone?
you can replace the top shock gear without problem the system will recalibrate at each start up cycle anyway. don't replace the headers if they are still good. rather take the catalytic converters out. for the actuator repair you can also do a search on www leboncoin fr
The cats have been replaced by new OEM's by the previous owner 5000km ago, why should they go? The headers are still ok now (I think), but for how long, I don't like having a ticking timebomb in my car.
Hello Yoeri, I have tubi headers on mine. Replaced them also as a precaution. Am very happy with them. Best regards, David
The non-US cars really look nice with the lower stance. Unfortunately, the US cars are higher for a reason
Thanks all I fixed the actuator problem with the new gears from Hill Engineering, but seriously a pain in the ass to get that locking pin in place. Long time ago that I got so frustrated lol In midst of all frustration I also decided to get rid of the sticky interior parts, I dissassembled the console and got an Europe replacement for Easy Off oven cleaners (CIF Oven Professional) and started cleaning since it's driving season I can't waste any time sending the parts to SNM and wait for it Got them cleaned and sprayed some Plasti Dip on them, looks very OEM. It's an 90% improvement compared to the sticky parts, but I'm thinking of sending them to SNM in winter time, because this job requires some practice, especially with the switches Next upgrade will be a Tubistyle Evolution
