Very cool car- shame it no longer has its original OMP Challenge seats, though. By the way, describing it as a "daily driver" is absurd. Legalities aside, and speaking as someone who knows from personal experience with driving Challenge cars on the street, no one in their right mind would use this daily.
Would love to own a 1995 F355 challenge car one day. Was this the one that came out of California about a year ago?
Agreed. I'd love to have a street legal Challenge car. Yes, I would drive it on the street, as well as on the track.
I've come to know this car well. It's a great car! It was on the track with me at Daytona last year. Here are few pictures of the car from the past... . Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have a few questions: Race history/provenance ? Service history (last major) ? Any serious accidents ? Original equipment such as seats available ? Currently street registered anywhere (ie. FL.) ? Feel free to email me (Stephen H. Frankel) at [email protected]
Who would drive daily??? Being able to go out for a cruise on the streets with this car would be an absolute blast. GLWS. Amazing.
Street Legal? I know 1995 Challenge cars were considered street legal because they were originally sold by Ferrari with a title and not just a bill of sale. So isn't the real question of being eligible to register this car on the street being, "Was this car initially sold by Ferrari with a title"? The reason I ask is this car was built in December of 1995, so would this car be considered a 1996 model? Just curious if this car is sold with a title, because if it is I could easily register and license it in Montana.
What does "1 of 108 factory cars" mean? It's my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong), that 1995 355 Challenge cars began life as standard 355s and a kit was purchased from a Ferrari dealer and the car was then converted to a "Challenge Car." Then, at some point in 1997 through 1998 or so Ferrari built, in-house, something like 72 "factory built" 355 Challenge race cars. These were 1997-1998 chassis but featured OBD1 1995 drivetrains. They had to be sold MSO only (i.e., no street Title) because it would have been illegal for Ferrari to sell an OBD1 car in 1997 or 1998 for road use. As this is a 1995 would this not be a standard 355 converted to Challenge specs using the Challenge kit from the Ferrari dealers? Either way, given the appreciation of the 355 market, this seems like a pretty darn good deal for someone!
At the Enzo Ferrari birthday gathering at the Peterson Museum I ran into an Enzo owner who also owned a 360 Challenge race car. The first thing he said when I mentioned the 355 Challenge was "that's the last Ferrari you could truly drive on the street then race then drive home, just like a 250GTO. With power windows, power mirrors, proper dash instruments, etc. it really was a true dual purpose street car/race car. The end of an era." Not to mention the 355 is the closest sounding car ever to a Formula 1 scream. Values of these cars will go up dramatically in time.
