Hi All - Thought I would share a rather interesting find I encountered the other day on my 95 US-Spec 355 GTS. Paranoia got the best of me since I usually carry my work laptop in the trunk of my 355 - and recalling that the primary cable on my 88 Testarossa snapped at one point and I had to use the emergency release - I decided to verify/test the emergency cable on the 355.

I double-checked the manual to make sure it was (supposedly) located in the same spot under the dash and to the left of the steering column. Reaching under and looking with a flashlight I could not find the emergency release - however, I did see a black t-handle on the RIGHT side under the dash. Pulled it and lo and behold the right trunk release opened but the left side did not. Thinking perhaps a broken cable I looked at both sides closely. Both sides had connected cables and did not appear broken but also did not run between the two sides. Looking/feeling further under the dash on the left side I did eventually locate yet another black t-handle - although WAY forward and significantly hidden - pulled it and the left side released.

So - a) The manual is wrong - at least for my car - b) There are two emergency trunk releases - at least for my car.

Just thought I would share in case anyone else is dealing with this and/or before the primary cable breaks and you are scrambling to try to open the trunk.

    Cheers as always :)

Makes sense that there are two handles as there are two latches. Even the regular opening handle has two cables.

The parts manual doesn't show the setup, but lists two handles and a left and right emergency cable part number.

Blue dot indicates normal opening parts. Red dot indicates emergency opening parts.

It's the same for the 5.2 car. I may have seen it on my own 5.2.

Many thanks for the info and diagram - Makes sense - Perhaps the previous owner had the additional right side cable and handle installed since per the diagram only the left side has both primary and secondary cables and the emergency handle shown only has cable to the left side - Don't see anything that would actuate both the left and right sides when pulling the single emergency handle in the diagram. And as you mention (although still a mismatch between diagram and list) item 17 is listed as "RH" when in actuality and in the diagram it is LH - and no actual RH is shown on the diagram and no item # listed.

Who knows - Ferrari manuals and diagrams can be quirky as we all know :)

Anyway, it works even though a bit odd -

    Thanks again - Cheers

Some parts manuals show #17 instead of a dash for P/N 62828600, so there are two #17's (with different part numbers). It's good you spotted the oddity. Some folks may order the wrong part.

Then there is the further confusion of LHD and RHD cars.
