1996 355 red tan coupe. 25662km. Car is in Canada in the Toronto area. Selling on behalf of customer. Needs it engine out service. Nice original car. Same owner for approx. 10 years. He bought it with 8,000km on it. Well maintained. Left side manifold was replaced a while ago, but I cant remember when we did it. Passed etest no problem. But the check engine light popped on just last week with oxygen sensor faults. It does need a set of tires because they are the original set, not because they are worn out. Dash has its normal leather shrinkage, but its not as bad as some I have seen. Switches etc are in good shape, with a little stickness just starting to happen, but its not bad. It does have an older after market stereo system with an amp in the front trunk, but all nicely made and installed. I'll post some pictures in a little bit, if I can get my damn phone to down load to my lap top!! Asking 45k USD
Is this originally a Canadian car or a US car. Is there a difference in the specs? Emissions, lights, bumpers etc? Could the car be easily brought into and registered in the US?
What conversion? the only thing you may have to do is change the speedo to miles.but i dont think you will even have to do that because the car is over 15yrs old.Lots of guys come up from the states and buy our cars with no problems. In canada the spiders are worth alot more than gtb or gts ,just check autotrader.ca.
I looked into importing a Canadian market car to the US in detail as I wanted to buy Drew's 355. The customs, surety bond, and expediter costs are a few thousand dollars. Then there's shipping. But the real challenge is you need a letter from the manufacturer stating the car meets all US epa and dot requirements for its year of manufacture.
Its going to cost to ship a car from anywhere even in the states if your not buying local. As far as the paper work lots of it you can do yourself.Show me where in the states you can buy a clean gtb for 48k?I see them for 65k and up.As far as drew's car it was a 99. You all so have to remember most cars that are in canada are us cars mine being one.
I'm sure the guy will accept 45 Canadian for it. He just wants to move it as he doesn't drive it enough anymore.
Never said anything about the car for sale being clean or priced competitively. And not sure why the year on Drew's car matters, it's not relevant. As far as shipping, you're referring to transportation from seller to buyer, I'm referring to the 300 yards or so it takes to cross the boarder. The buyer can't move the car through customs, you need the customs expediter to do that. So there's a shipping cost just to get the car through customs and across the boarder. Then there's the shipping cost for delivery. I suppose if someone wants to try to do the paperwork themselves they can, what could go wrong...? And obviously if it's a US market car to begin with there's no need to re-import it, but that's not relevant here either as the seller states above it's a Canadian market car.
Drew's car is 1999 not over 15yrs old...read what i posted .If you buy a car out of state in the US do you still not have to ship it ,is it still not on a transport? Yes you have to pay abit for the trucker to go in to show the paper work. But its not 2k.I've bought two ferrari's from that states had to send the title 72hr ahead and did all the paper work myself .If i had a broker do it it was $ 400.00.It's not much difference going down. What can go wrong.. not much thats why they ask for the title 72hr before hand.
I always thought cars had to be 25 years or older to go into the USA from Canada. I would check with the local licence get office to be sure. If anybody would like pics pm me you cell number and I'll text them to you if you have an iPhone or Samsung.
Sent two pms today, I'm in Toronto and keen to see it ASAP. Please get in touch, I can come see it today or tomorrow. Thanks! Rk
Just want to say a public thanks to Tom B for his incredible support, wisdom, knowledge and help in this transaction. After three full years of searching - my first F car is turning out even better than ever hoped. RK
