39300 miles. 30K service was done, but date is unknown.

Even if I immediately did a major service for $6K, $77K is a nice discount to the current Spyder market for that year/miles, which I think is about $80K, assuming good books & records and no stories.

An F355 with holes in its service records and 40K miles may need more than a $6K service. You could spend a lot more than that on headers, power top issues, dash shrinkage, etc.

EDIT: saw you posted the link. It's good that "sex appeal" is included, but the photos don't show much. I would want to look at in person, or have a local friend -- ideally a mechanic -- look at it. 355's are gorgeous but they are also one of the pricier V-8 cars to put in order. Also you probably know the attractive price is also because in the Ferrari world 40K miles on a '96 is considered moderately high.

Sorry, but it does not seem like any "deal" to me. You already know it needs a 30K plus if the headers have not been replaced w/ after markets (which I doubt or the seller would boast of it), you can add another $3500. The engine bay is dirty, there is crap filling both door pockets (slob), a Banana Republic bag behind the driver's seat, there looks to be a gash in the driver's door panel, there is a scrape on the bottom of the front spoiler below the right driving light and the floor mats are ragged, just telling me the car was cleaned up for the picture but not well cared for in general. The PPI will tell if the valve guides are an issue, but 40,000 miles is a lot of seat time for a Ferrari (relatively speaking of course). Be sure they check out the top mechanism as well. Good luck.
