    Hi everyone,

I have noticed a very strange problem on my 355 that might be a little difficult to explain, but I am going to try my best .

When I am cruising on 4th, 5th, or 6th gear, and then I press on the gas pedal to the end (no shifting of gears), I notice that my revs go up, but no power is going to the rear wheels. Then all of a sudden, the power turns the wheels. I first noticed this after I took my car to get its major engine-out service (belt change) at 6,000 miles (last year), but it happened only a few times. Now, everytime I drive it, I am afraid to accelarate in those gears because the car pretty much freezes for a few seconds and then takes of, so it is very dangerous when I want to pass someone.

I would appreciate any feedback from you guys because I simply do not trust the service department for ferrari because I feel they are always trying to charge me for everything.

    Thanks,
    mani

P.S. I bought the car new in fall of 1996, and it has 7,200 miles right now.

Can the problem be: 1) Clutch 2) Valves 3) Other mechanical problem

I'd say it was the clutch slipping.

I second that Doc... Most likely the clutch...

Good news is you can do the clutch on a 355 - without pulling the engine out!! Woo Hoo.. Will cost you a couple of grand in parts and labor though.

I have an old post in the archives that shows pictures of my 355 engine out - where they also did the clutch - you can see what it looks like when it is worn down.

I agree, sounds like clutch, but a "couple grand in parts and labor?"....not from the dealer. ;)

Thanks everyone for your advice. I will get the clutch checked out to see if it is worn out. Glad the engine does not have to come out!!
