I'm changing the shifter linkage seal on my 355 and I've encountered a small issue. The shifter rod doesn't want to pull out of the tranny. I'm included a picture to show u the rod in the transmission. I don't want to force it so I'm looking for advise.

    Thanks

No need to remove the shifter rod to change the seal.

Drill a small hole in the seal of sufficient size to screw in a self tapping screw. With the screw secure you can then use it to pull out the seal. I did not need to drill both sides, just one was sufficient.

Oh i do hope you have selected a gear before you removed that shift rod, and pulled on that selector stub. Not knowing what gear the box is in hen you re connect the rod can be a PITA.
The stub works by a little twist in either direction with a little pull, and if you cant locate reverse.......its fun :D
I always select 2nd gear so i know exactly were both box and shifter are when i re connect.

Simply remove the lower cross member mate :)
4 17mm nuts and an allen key.
Although personaly i have never had to drill them, i use a very small screw driver with a slightly hooked end and pry them out. I just slip it past the seal and bobs your uncle :) Its quite robust around the stub and housing.

I've done it myself. there's some good threads here on it.
Do remove the cross-member. don't move the shifter shaft.
I didn't even need to drill holes. A small dental pic and the seal came off.
Lube the new seal and take care to slide it on without forcing it or it'll fold and you'll be doing it again.

Cant be much in any of them threads, its all be coverd here already.
And if he was going to drill the seal, removing the cross member would take about three minutes for easy access. No biggie, what ever makes the job easy. Somtimes They can be buggers to remove, so its all about options.
