(pic taken in 2006) 1998 Arctic Silver M3 coupe Bought 2/2002 with 52000 miles It has ~160000 miles now I bought this car in February 2002 from the 2nd owner who sold it when it went out of warranty. I used it as a daily driver for a little over 2 years, when I got heavily into autocross. At that point, it was trailered everywhere because it was easier to do than swapping wheels on site. At the very last autocross of 2004, the oil pump nut dropped for the 2nd time in 6 months, so I pulled the engine and had Chuck Stickley rebuild it with Schrick cams and all other needed modifications. I finished 4th at the National ProSolo in SM class in 2005 and then at that point I put the car back to street duty since I didn’t want to permanently modify the car to where it could compete with the top guys. I finished the bodywork and had the car painted. It’s a monster street car which I daily drove once again for another 2 years with its flared fenders and 11” rear wheels. When people asked what was done to the car, I tell them the transmission is stock. It’s the easiest way to explain it since I’ve owned the car for almost 13 years and I’ve replaced just about everything along the way. I don’t drive the car at all anymore and it took me a year to put 500 miles on the car to break the new clutch in. The car has been paid off for a long time now, so I really don’t have to sell it, but I’d like to see someone enjoying it. If I keep the car, I will continue to spend money on maintenance that I should be spending on my 2 year old. I would also have the car repainted in the next 2 years since the paint is 8 years old now and some of the bodywork is showing its age. The wheels need some TLC with polishing the lips. I’m selling it as is in Maryland, so the buyer would have to have it inspected. If it’s out of state, it would be the buyer’s responsibility anyway. I’m putting it up for sale for $14,999. I appreciate all opinions on the price, but for what the car is, I feel that price is very fair. How many track miles and/or hours are on the car since the engine rebuild? Does it have working air conditioning? Can you post some detailed pictures of how the car looks now? Most of your pictures appear to be of the rebuild process and don't really show the car. Thanks, Scott
How's the car in snow haaaaaa?! Track miles since the rebuild are key. Could be an easy way to get a V8 track M3...hmmmm
Sorry, for some reason I'm not getting emails for this thread. I took these pictures over the past day or so. The car needs TLC but it is mechanically sound and a total beast to drive. The last time the car was used for autox was the Summer of 2006 and it has never been on a big track. It has been a street car since then. The engine and interior pictures in the Photobucket folder are all from over last Winter and Spring. The only original option that it doesn't still have is traction control and it wasn't very good in the first place.
3 more while the battery is charging... I updated the subscription to this thread, I'll be much quicker to reply now.
On eBay now BMW M3 M3 | eBay I've had quite a few tire kickers and people asking for reserve price. I've set it at $12,500 which is the price that 100% original cars sell for. Modifications aren't worth any money when selling, but maintenance is worth every penny. The untouched cars need $3000 in suspension parts as part of regular maintenance, so I feel that price is very fair.
