twice in the past month my 360 has failed to go into gear when a stoplight turns green.today i had to hit auto button then the paddle did engaged the gear.my foot is on the break when i am trying to get 1st when the light turns green.i cant get it to happen when i try to on a lightly traveled road.of course it only happens when there are all kinds of traffic waiting behind me.does every f1 not engage from time to time or is there a problem?any one else had this problem?

It should go in every single time. The brake light sw would be high on my list but it really does not matter what I think. The car has to be checked by someone with an SD2 since that is the only way to see what the F1 control unit is doing.

Sometimes it happens when the sensor fail to determine whether you are on the accelerator or brake pedal. Give the brake pedal another tap will probably get you into gears. Anyway I do not put to Neutral on a stop light so this will not happen.

I have learned from this site that the clutch thrust (throw) bearing is always depressed when the car is stopped - even when you are in neutral. So, with no wear saved on that unit you might as well always keep it in 1st at the lights.
With that said I too have had your problem: Just press the brake pedal with some serious leg power and it will go in gear. Why does this problem happen on some cars? I don’t really know but it is as though there is a bleed off of pressure in the servo and the sensor thinks the brake has been released, or then again perhaps the computer takes a reading every so often and if your brake has been on for two or three readings it assumes that that is actually the ‘off’ position. The first time it happened to me I was miles away from anywhere and had no cell phone. It looked like pushing the car half a hundred miles would be the only answer until in a stab of frustration I pushed the pedal very, very hard and was rewarded with the ‘clunk’ of first gear.
    Good luck!

I have had the exact problem occur several times with my 1999 360 F1 .The four times it happened the car was very hot from an extended session. The F1 fluid level was a little low and since I topped it off has only happened once--but its winter and it has not been driven much. Chris at FOA says it could possibly be the ( i think this is what he said ) throw out bearing rubber seal sticking when the car is very hot.I am doing the FCA Barber track event this weekend and FOA is going to have their transporter and techs there so if it happens will try and get them to diagnose it and will report back their findings. My car has 16,700 miles and has the original clutch. Good Luck Buddy
