Greetings all, just joined the forum after acquiring my 1999 456M GTA. I'm in the process of tracking down the production numbers for this car and could use some help from you experts out there! So far, I have read that only 492 LHD 456M GTA's were made. I'd like to confirm that, and perhaps narrow it down further, i.e., of those, how many were produced with black paint and black leather.

    Any help is appreciated!

Hi Mark congratulations and welcome to the 456M club.
Production numbers that exist are one thing colour combinations are another.
Black on black would be in a low percentage, I have slowly been putting together a spreadsheet of the cars that come up for sale, however Taz may a better idea than me for the US market.

This thread has been chilled for the 456 Enthusiats

I had a 456M in Nero Daytona met., with Verde (green) interior myself, hence my profile name, and that car was a very good car which never let me down. These cars are build to last a long time!! Now, most cars are just made to last 5 to 10 years and have no soul in them...

Man, this car has soul and more. With the Tubi exhaust, you hear the low roar before you ever see her coming! Love that big V12!

Just out of curiosity... Do you have any "drone" (resonance) in the car with those mufflers from Tubi? And what is in the middle and up front with the catalyzers? I had great results with original catalyzers + Stebro X-pipe + straight out pipes at the rear (no mufflers at all). Tried about five combinations with and without catalyzers. I spent about 8 grand on exhaust parts and endes up with a simple 2k set-up which was the best! I guess you have a little more bass (deep tone) too with your mufflers. I got beautiful Capristo rear mufflers now on my 550 and it has a terrible drone at idle. So much you have to turn off the engine if stationary for more than ten seconds...

I get the best exhaust note of any car I've ever owned, with a perfect noise level inside. There is no irritating resonance, just a beautiful bass tone at idle. People literally turn and walk towards the car like zombies when they hear it heh heh. I Picked up a buddy at the airport awhile back, but was a hundred yards away or so when he came out with his bags. He just kept walking towards the sound until he found me. Everything upstream of the Tubi is stock, to my knowledge.

Congrats! Good to see Tx plates! I just purchased my 1999 456M GTA a couple months ago. I no longer live in Tx. But when I did I drove a white Pantera with EX BRIT plates in Houston. Now in Seattle area. I even had the AC on today. I suspect you will get more use out of yours than I will!

    Welcome on board.

PS I might want to talk to you about your exhausts. I have the standard pipes which are very muted, and will stick with them for a while, but after the Pantera I need some more noise around me! and the V12 sounds so much nicer than the V8 (which didnt suck).

Hey Alan, good to hear from a fellow year & model owner. I'm doing some research right now on production numbers and as far as I can tell, only 492 LHD 456M GTA's were ever made. Is that consistent with your info? I'm talking to Ferrari here in Dallas now to see how many were double black, like mine.

I can't say enough good things about the Tubi, but it was on my car when I acquired it, and appears to have been ordered that way. My other favorite is the Borla Pro XS, which I run on my 1970 Challenger behind Hooker headers.

    -Mark

PS: Love those Panteras! I negotiated for over a year on one here in town but never got closer than $20K apart.

Mine is Grigio Titanio with black interior. Build # 29823. The Pantera was a fun car, super on the track and got a lot of attention on the street but the interior was very primitive (being nearly 30 years older) and interestingly enough garnered a different kind of attention to the 456. I am getting tons of thumbs up and smiles on the street with the 456 which I did not expect. The Pantera got mainly interested but quizzical looks.

Beautiful, and that's before they started putting crazy wings and big flared fenders on 'em. I do loves me nice Pantera! I had the 456 out last night for dinner and it always draws a crowd. Not many folks know what it is. They think 308's or 328's are classic older Ferrari's, or maybe the TR's. It just cracks me up how guys on the street immediately turn their heads towards the sound. Not the women, but ALL the guys. Something primal about that exhaust note that makes them turn towards the sound, while their wives and girl friends keep chatting away, unaware that the guys have stopped listening. Cracks me up!

My 95 has Tubi, too. It sounds absolutely fantastic. I can't help but lightly blip the throttle at idle because it sounds so amazing. Love it.

Your car looks great! Love it in black.
