Sold 1999 986 DD/Beater Boxster $4500-5000

I have had my 996 for 9 years. A lot of the big things were done prior to purchase (clutch, RMS, IMS). It's interesting..there are a lot of cheap fixes for the 986/996, and a bunch of stuff that is a PITA.

The upside is there are tons of resources available and sources for parts both new and used.

 

For sure there is a link between price and availability. That whole supply and demand thing.

The 996/986 have a lot of great things about them. And a lot of things that are a ****ty design and Porsche should have provided a recall and an updated design. This Boxster is the same age as my 996. Lots of random plastic and rubber items to replace. Luckily there are a lot of used parts out there if the new ones are too expensive. Still its easy to blow a big number on these cars if you aren't careful.

 

My brother picked up an inexpensive (a few thousand more than this one) 2001 Boxster to work on with my 16 year old nephew as a father/son project. They went through the car, rebuilt the entire suspension, and did a number of other things to it to teach my nephew about car repairs. It was a great project and learning opportunity. My brother took it to work one day and found out that one of his coworkers was the original owner after he saw it in the parking garage. Good times...

For sure, and the timing of your sale post couldn't have been better (except for the snowstorm up here that delayed my flight down, gah!) The roadtrip home was a great way to get acquainted with it, got a honk and wave from a new Boxster and Cayman along the way, too. Thankfully the weather up here did a total 180 since 2 days ago when I left!
